I believe we could be pretty fine without questionable lore backgrounds and discussions about them like this, and say Gallic Junkers are given this name because they are Gallic and also because they are Junkers, simply because they collect scrap, loot wrecks, and reuse the trash floating in space, make a living out of selling it, and that they originate from Gallia and been doing the junking in Gallia. I don't think that simply the similarity in names (both are Junkers) would warrant a common origin, rather a similar profession or way of life in this case.

What makes thing even more funnier, I was told that original Corse itself asked devs to have set initial rep towards GJ (and vice versa) to be neutral-unfriendly. I do not know what purpose it would be, but I had RP with one Corse (which was named Picard as well, so it turned out into rather awkward family meeting) and no single shot fired.

I believe Sirian Junkers and Gallic Junkers are rivals, because Taus are their turf. And both can attack themselves, if they want to, but their fight isn't forced and they may as well ignore each other.

When you don't bother to read lore, don't ask silly questions.

If you did, you'd know GJ and UC are bitter rivals, and that UC even took over a GJ base once, massacring every single Junker that was on-board the base.

Wasn't it a base rumor about Council allegedly gassing royalists?

It's probably in reference to Bourbon Base:

Quote:Bourbon once belonged to Junkers, but in 671 A.S. it was captured by Unione Corse, with all inhabitants, including women and children, supposedly massacred or thrown into space. It is unknown what caused this outbreak of hostility between factions who generally stay neutral to each other or act as allies. Most probably, it was revenge for a hostile act of the local Junker leaders.

This makes it sound like it was something temporary and that they are otherwise neutral/allied (?!) to each other.

Then we have the official [UC] page which claims unfriendly but non-hostile relations:

(05-30-2013, 08:28 PM)Teerin Wrote: UNFRIENDLY (-.55) - Gallic Junkers: Unlike the conlifct between the Hogosha and Sirian Junkers, Corsicans and Gallic Junkers are not actually hostile towards each other. If they openly fought, the could get in trouble with the Royal Police. Oddly enough, docking rights are granted, but if a ship on either side strays alone far outside the core, they might become a target. These Junkers also lack unity, so they pose no major threat for the Corse.

And then, the in-game rep page outright lists Gallic Junkers and Unione Corse as enemies.

GJ lore is unclear/confusing/misleading and it isn't clear at all which part of it was retconned, which one was not, and why they are using the same technology as Sirian Junkers.

Bourbon once belonged to Junkers, but in 671 A.S. it was captured by Unione Corse, with all inhabitants, including women and children, supposedly massacred or thrown into space. It is unknown what caused this outbreak of hostility between factions who generally stay neutral to each other or act as allies. Most probably, it was revenge for a hostile act of the local Junker leaders. Nevertheless, the base has since belonged to Unione Corse, and the Junkers never made demands to regain it. Instead, in 690 A.S. they built Bourg-en-Bresse Space Port as their new base of operations in the Burgundy system.
