I'd attribute the seriousness of roleplay to the overall setting. If this was some sort of anime catgirl simulator, I am sure that would increase the liveliness of the roleplay a bit. Until then however, we are still playing out a distopian future where the average value of a human life is so small that you destroy them if they refuse to stop for a cargo hold scan.

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

In my experience, it is only possibly to do not-that serious RP if you are a Freelancer or Zoner. If you belong to any other faction the opposing side will always hunt you for a blue message and wont listen to whatever you might have to say.

And more trial-by-forum in this thread. Is that even on the list of what's still moderated?

You keep this idea of how FL universe works, but you keep dismissing the objection that things work this way ingame only because a) this is just a game so no one really dies and b) we have no ingame tools for things like arrests. If there would be /arrest or /imprison commands, things would likely work different way.

Also, I would like to remind you that even in current world, if you refuse to stop with a car when police is on your tail (and in many countries police have right to stop you just to check your papers without any other specific reason or commited offense), sooner or later (depends on country and how dangerous you are on the road) cops will start shooting at your car or even directly at driver. Not to mention how many people were shot for example in USA just because they didn´t follow officer´s orders to keep hands visible and don´t move with them during traffic stop. So FL future universe is actually not that different from the present.

To the OP - like Jack said, it is not easy to make roleplay which is funny but not silly. And it depends on what character you have. For example, when your main character is high ranked police officer, there are very little opportunities to make funny roleplay without looking silly, because you do formal talks mainly. There can be some joking with your wingman on patrol ingame, but on forums (which is most visible) and especially in comms with third parties, there is little room for it.

On a ragebreak. Or ragequit. Time will tell.

Not that there's anything wrong with being edgy or super serious, but it's nice to have a refresher every now and again in the form of a character that doesn't take itself too seriously while remaining original. Really helps to liven up the place beyond the typical "I have a dark and tragic past" stuff and adds more character diversity to a universe that oughta be pretty diverse (kudos to thunderer for always being good with this sort of stuff).

I try to add a bit more feeling to things when I'm on Tal Ravis or writing his associated stories/roleplays, but how well I succeed in that is entirely up to the people on the other end of the screen. The prevalence of this serious (by your definition) roleplay is actually what drove me in part to make mister Ravis what he is today, and all the tea-sipping comm responses and stuff are just me trying to have some fun with it while (hopefully) providing some degree of entertainment for the readers.

I will agree that some people (see: 15-year olds) think that "funny" roleplay is spouting some stale internet meme that they just discovered while browsing Reddit or something. Please don't do this. It really isn't funny.

Yo amigo its actually 17yrs old who found out bout Goonswarm Federation way back in 2010 and was part of them for 2 months so don't think that the stereotype of random kiddo browsing reddit for memes works for me .

Laura, it wasn't a jab at any police factions. It is simply how the game is portreyed via game mechanics and written infocards and lore. Most police installations house planetside inmates. Criminals who have obtained space vessels are shot down because they are too dangerous to apprehend otherwise.

Exactly, i have come to the conclusion that the degradation of the RP is due to people wanting to crush anyone just for feeling themselves better. Pathetic.

If i made a pvp dedicated server wihout RP, im sure a lot of people would dissapear from here.

I even joke around with rogues, hessians and any other pirate with my junker, as if he could not speak well due to his age (hes a 70 year old grandpa after all).

Consider - there's quite a few derelict servers lying around. Without roleplaying in some way shape or form, there really is nothing more to FL than running drugs/diamonds and flying around asteroid fields at breakneck speeds. Frankly, there are far, far better space PvP games out there - Star Cit Arena is nice if you can run it, while Elite Dangerous an excellent game for hauling cargo and never seeing another soul.

With that said, I've run into a handful of people in space while making my drug runs over the past few days, and all but one of them was out for valid kills (or valid loot). Valid hunting is an age-old problem and I've never seen a decent solution for it.

Do something thats not in the script of some tunnel-visioned RPers, and riot ensues.
Like, fly some Zoner whales through Bretonia, and every BPA* is attracted to you like a friggin magnet and immediately wants his 5 million credit fine or you "face annihilation".
Or fly a Zoner Dreadnought through Bretonia, and every BPA* is attracted to you like a friggin magnet and immediately wants his 5 million credit fine or you "face annihilation".
Or fly a Zoner Dreadnought through Liberty, and every LN is attracted to you like a friggin ...

It mostly feels like despite some people want to actually RolePlay, the ultimate goal of most players is either pew pew or making money.
(For example some British lawful lad named "thunderer" (wonder who that might be) wanted to escort two Zoner Dreadnoughts (wonder who that might have been) out of Bretonian House space, but some BPA* jerk insisted on his 5 million credit fine, thus ending in an unnecessary battle, and not only once. No wonder those two Zoner Dreads despite playing for several hours never made it to Gran Canaria.)

Oh my dear. You and Dakun and the rest of your bunch of Zoner bull*** ORI wannabe RP was maybe the worst thing i've ever seen here at Discovery. Not to mention the rest of your troll factions attempts like PYM and NORP. Hopefully you changed your troll attitude. If not. Don't play the victim card here
