Everyone should know about the Nomads, why do you think they call it the Nomad war. Rheinland would have to explain why their entire northern fleet went to war with Kusari and Bretonia otherwise they'd still be at war.
Mind you, there was no "Nomad War" per se. Not in terms of an actual warfare directly with Nomads themselves, what happened instead is several key surgical operations by Order who actually fought the Nomads directly, the rest however did not, except for certain individuals may be. So their knowledge, even with fifteen years passed, is quite lacking. Not even Order really understands what they are fighting up against. But that is a different story and is to be told when the right time comes. The term "Nomad war" would best be described as "Nomad incident" or "Nomad conflict", something like that, but not exactly a full out war. Furthermore, from the climatic events of 801 A.S. till 815 A.S. Nomads, whatever was remaining of their scattered fleets surviving the shockwave, were hardly seen or active. Until recently and now things are changing, activity is rising exponentially and something is going to happen... But I'm not going to spoil, everything has it's right time to know and it has not come yet.
p.s. Public can demand anything, chances it'll be given actual knowledge is too low. UFOs? Unnaturally moving light spots in the sky? Flying saucers? Grey big-headed aliens? Blue transparent aliens? Oh yes... Whatever...
There is one thing I'd like to ask the community though. Remember, the term "Nomads" originated from the Order. Corsairs, given their relations to Order would know them as such too. Those related to Corsairs would know probably too, but not to the same extent. Others however know them under the different names. To some those are just aliens. To some they are called Spirits. Try to be inventive and try to come up with your own name rather than blatantly snatching the knowledge you have gained from playing SP into your character (for instance Navy would designate them as something like "Specie 23" or the like, try to follow up your theme and style in names too, wouldn't hurt). Unless your character was involved in the conflict itself, within Order ranks and had access - he/she would know. Others would probably have different understanding of what they are facing. Please, do not use "Slomon K'Hara", it's not known to public much, apart from Wilde and Nomads themselves. The name would play a key and important role, till a certain moment it's not has been discovered yet.

So what would rheinland have said about their mindless hostilities?
A: "Sorry guys, some freaky aliens got into our boss's brains and told us to do it"
B: "Were not gonna tell you why we ripped the hell into you and suddenly stopped, get over it"
Even self centered rheinlanders can't walk away from a war that apparently they started without an explaination. Better to blame it on someone else than themselves.
Ash, that's where comes the true art of politics, to avoid and cover blatant truth so much you'd believe into lie more than anything. Those upstairs aren't stupid, they can find a way to tell things such way to public to convince majority and that is all needed. For as long as it stays true you can be a marginal minority believing into grey aliens, flying saucers, whatever you want, they'll keep making fun of your kind in media, truth or not. It doesn't matter at all.

Player-wise, as you noted, absolute majority played SP, hence they know what happened, again, player-wise, except that not everyone here is Trent Edison or any of his companions. Amount of what your character know, not you personally as a player, would depend on other factors, such but limited to like relevance the character had to the events of SP campaign. Naturally average joe sixpack would have a very limited knowledge, like knowing there are things out there, overheard something at some point, but where they are coming from or what they are really, some of those questions not even the Order can answer without falling into hypothesis and theories. "Impression"... like saying "I'm not impressed by SP campaign", to each own I'd reply then and keep walking as I were. Inaccurate wording I suppose, hence missed the point of what you actually was trying to say.
everbody know there is alien civilization... question is what is know
level scale of knowledge about nomads is from 1 to 10 when 10 is the best.
Zoners, Order = best knowledge... they see them every day, know their technology, use theor technology, fight against them 24/7 = lvl 10
Liberty Navy, Kusari Navy... they know a lot about them and their technology = lvl 8
IMG, GMG, corsairs, outcasts, Blood dragons... similar like LN or KNF but they are for them something like curiosity from National Geographic = lvl 7
RM, Red Hessians = they know almost everything about infested ppl (wild) but they havent more informations about nomads... only rummors and some info prom spies = lvl 6
Rest of Rheinland pirates and lawfull armed fractions, rest of Kusari lawfull and armed fractions, bountyhunters... they know something from alies above, something from rare encounters with wild or nomads but thats all = lvl 5
Suffice to say the Nomads' tech isn't known well in general, a lot are remnants of Nomads' own experiments with human technology, prototype hybrid weapons, further adapted by third parties who scavenged those trophies. After all they were produced by infested personnel and Nomads themselves, much evidenced by Liberty's and Rheinland's utilization of the tech back at the day of SP events, but the actual knowledge and ability to re-create those devices is missing for most of the part nowadays. Some information would remain in special governmental archives of Liberty and Rheinland, but to say people know what they are actually facing... Nope. Nomads' ultimate goal or what they are still remain unknown, naturally theories exist, created by some players around and their characters, but theories they remain.

The pro-tem chancellor of Rheinland is standing before a crowd of reporters, preparing to make a statement. There has been a lot of curiosity of late concerning Rheinland's actions towards the other houses and of Chancellor Niemann's odd behavior.
"The Rheinland Government would like to apologize for the actions of the late Chancellor Niemann. His policies are not the policies of the new government. We are withdrawing our forces back into Rheinland space and will be reexamining our actions of late. We will not be taking any questions, thank you."

when your trundling through Omi Iota looking for a wreck, and a Nomad battleship 'appears', and takes down your shield and 3/4 of your hull BEFORE the radar has shown it on the list of 'important', I wasn't so impressed as scared stiff...
Nommies aren't so impressive to anyone who's completed SP, but its the new wilde/wild and phantoms that are more scary as they're an unknown quantity. The nommie ships' stats and advantages are well known, but the wilde and phantoms can fly 'other' ships... plus they have a human on board, not AI.
