Ummm...aren't BH capital ships designed to be in the Edge Worlds to fight the Nomads, Order, Corsairs, and Outcasts?
Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits
I agree, BH caps are (for anyone that ever bothers to read the damn info cards on them) SUPPOSED to be out on the fringes, in the Omicrons, Omegas, and Sigmas...
As for what all the unlawfuls are griping about - big cap ships - it really boils down to people that don't come here versus those that do - and by here, I'm referring to our forums.
I did three whole trade runs last night in PM with someone who was new to the game, and amazed at what we have and can do. He was someone who was just trading away, wanting to get enough credits to buy a big cap ship and go have fun - and had no real clue about the depth of play experience that was waiting for him by coming HERE as WELL as the interactions available online and in game.
Thank you all for the kind comments about the S/D, by the way. We try to do this right. Lord knows we don't always survive the PvP portion of things - but I know that we're trying to do the RP as hunters correctly.

' Wrote:"Fun" is a subjective concept. Many players enjoy high-speed dogfights in their fighters. For me personally, I don't think it's very much fun to fly a fighter/bomber, only to die instantly by SN or a couple of well-placed nuke mines or missiles. I don't enjoy flying them, for the most part. Rping, i.e. typing. can be a real pain in the Lonelicrons when you're dodging npc swarms. I don't have a problem with dieing - I do that often enough in my BS. But if I'm going play a game, I want have some fun.
@Jihadjoe: Could you elaborate on your thought of "making the game more playable for other players"? What does this really mean? If it means setting up a level playing field with others, well, that is pretty much doomed to fail. Most players will initiate an attack only if they believe they have the upper hand. That often means arranging the odds to be in your favor. In my opinion, this is also good rp - your character probably doesn't want to throw his/her life away on a suicide mission (well, there might be someone like that, but they would be an exception to the rule).
As regarding the Keepers, they can take care of themselves. All they need is Harby, a couple of gunboats, and a half-dozen bombers and O. Delta will be in pandemonium. Their ships and weapons are, for the most part, superior to their human counterparts - a factor that is good to keep in mind. And I suspect that they too will be getting some upgrades in the next mod, so no need to shed any tears for the squishies just yet. I am confident that they will adapt.
Good points being raised here...
I do much prefer the high paced and simultaneously drawn out combat in fighters. It's much more my style, but I can see that others prefer to sit in their caps and do what they do from there...
When I say more playable to others I mean not having this bizzare arms race that happens.
Side A. get a battleship.
Side B. get a better battleship, so side A get a second one.
And so on and so on... Making the game unplayable for people who choose to fly smaller ships, as everywhere you go you find yourself surrounded by ships that are rather out of your league.
This all because credits are a little too easy to get together a battleship isn't an important thing any more, therefore the heavy guns have to be used with responsibility and in restraint. Not just using it at every opportunity you get.
People make choices with regards to the game and how they play it. Those choices have to be respected. It's a lot easier to trample on someone's gameplay with a cap than it is a fighter or bomber (contentious remark, but hey).
With regards to the keepers, if there are three caps parked in delta, and one keeper in a fighter wishing to go and roleplay somewhere, then how exactly are they supposed to exit iota?
Initiating an attack only when you have the upper hand kills small groups, or groups who choose not to fly large ships. It's utterly disrespectful of their gameplay. They cease to be able to operate and then lose members and die.
Large ships are all very well and good, but they sure as hell shouldn't be used at the expense of other people roleplay and game experience... Same as any other ship. It's a lot easier to do it in a big ship than it is in a small one... So go figure.
I completely agree with JihadJoe. But that is the whole problem here: the dogma against fair hunters.
the ones who let corsairs and outcasts in fighters pass by with some rp and just wave em off.
the kind that blows away corsairs and outcasts (pretty much everything with a red hud for that matter) don`t come here either way. so my plea is to the ones who do, the ones who want to RP in a cap in the borderworlds. like it is supposed to be like Athenian said.
so for pete`s sake: stop bashing those guys. Delta is a laugh when 2 fleets collide there.
what`s missing is the respect for playing style. not everyone finds a fighter good fun like mentioned earlier.
People play this for fun (although with some it`s hard to tell) so let them play the way they want to, without getting on their case when they RP properly.
so, get your caps and some escort ships to the borderworlds where they belong and lets start tearing each other up in a proper Disco RP style. without the standard "capwhores you`re a coward yadda yadda" stuff
@Jihadjoe: You too brought forth some good points. I'd like respond to a few of them.
I agree that someone in a cap can easily ruin the game for someone in a smaller ship. The cap pilot should use restraint and take others into consideration. If fighters/bombers steer clear of you, there's no point in engaging them. No excessive pew-pewing when the situation doesn't warrant it. A BS or BC engaging fighters is bogus and a buzz kill for the fighter pilots. We agree on this.
Not long ago, I flew my BS into Omicron Lost, just for a look see. Then I noticed that a few Keepers and some baby Nomads had entered the system. The Keepers were in VHFs. We had some nice rp without firing a shot. Then I left the system. The end.
I heartily encourage other Core BH to try this type of rp when they have this sort of tactical advantage. It's a good opportunity to learn more about the other player's rp. And you won't necessarily blow up in the process.
Now, if I had been in an Orca in that previous scenario in Omicron Lost, well, I think our rp would have been of the pew-pew genre - with me on the receiving end. In other words, the Keepers would have taken advantage of the opportunity. Experience with them has taught me this. That's the way they roll nor would I blame them for following their rp.
I'm not sure about what to say about your arms race idea and facing and overwhelming enemy. The places I frequent aren't populated with too many VHFs. The bomber pilots I run into on a semi-regular basis haven't complained about being outclassed and outgunned. They just call in their buddies and the battle commences. Sometimes I nail a couple, but then I usually blow up or limp to the nearest Freeport for extensive repairs.
I am usually fighting against overwhelming odds myself, facing bombers, cruisers, gunboats and dreadnoughts. And yes, sometimes all of them at once. I'm getting used to that. Sometimes these gankings are fully in the spirit of good rp and sometimes they're not. And no, retreating isn't always an option, when you keep getting knocked out of cruise by 6+ train cds aimed at your massive silhouette.
Aye i like seeing bounty hunters in the omicrons... as long as they are not basecamping crete or toledo... that is the only place where any bhg above gunboat should be. That's how it should be. Perhaps a few bhg in the Omega 49, and omega 15... but generaly as far as possible from house space....
and if they loose to a hail of preatorian SN's that's so much for the better...
