Yeah, in the thoughts of realism...you wouldnt be able to unknowingly mass a large attack force, and go fly into someone elses home system with it...i think the last time that was pulled off was in Pearl Harbor. So warning them that you are coming in a PM is sort of simulating the "realism" of your enemy obviously having knowledge of a large enemy fleet coming their way.

Sure on the one hour thing imho if you are willing to spend 2 million for a name change and think up a different RP background/personality everytime you die. =/

...Secondly we are a universe at war people and that's the whole point of the game. Cease fire agreements and ship restrictions are just stifling that...

... I'm sick of "guarding" home systems waiting for something to happen and then getting whined at from whoever loses a fight.

If it ain't broke... Don't fix it.
The current set-up is fine for most people... It's just the way it's done

If you want more realistic battle encounters, go to EVE, where the number of players allows for proper espionage, planning, and attacks. Here on FL, we do the best we can with what we have. Unfortunately, 200 players (and we're usually at 100-140) can't simulate a galaxy the same way as the 100,000+ players EVE Tranquility has at a time. If you're invading, inform your opponent.. If you're just a small raiding party, then no pre-planning is necessary.

But there have been plenty of examples of how informing your opponent has turned out better than having attacked and waited as people log on. And some of the best KNF-BAF fights are the pre-planned Saturday events.

Madness.....

Of course pre planned battles should happen. In fact its a necessary evil to ensure there is some semblance of fairness for players on the server. Perhaps if your looking to simply wipe out everything in your path then you just stick to randomly invading wherever you feel like but dont expect to get much satisfaction when all you encounter are a couple of traders and some indies who want to put up some form of resistance.

Ive learned the hard way that the best fights are the ones where you know its coming. The anticipation and planning can be as enjoyable as the event itself. Trying to outguess your opponent based on what you have learned from them in past and redesigning your attack/ defence for next time should be what your spending your time on. Not in fact whinging about the staus quo.

Gentle is right. From experience, if you go into a system with an overwelming force and pwn just about everything really quick, it gets old fast. Call ahead and earn that victory..... priceless.

This is a game, we are not talking about real war here. We are here to have fun and get some enjoyment from interacting with and making a fireball out of a friends ship.

The best advise I can give is get to know your fellow players and make friends with the people you are fighting with and against. This has kept me playing this old game for so long.

-edit- Davian, your avitar is epic.... I still play that from time to time.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

Just so ya know... I have never invaded with a huge force, I don't even own caps and I"M the one that generally get's wasted in a fight.

Everyone has opinions, just voicing mine, I like the rp here, it just seems that a large number of players just never want to fight against huge odds. I think that keeps things fluid and interesting and I'd hate to see this game get stale.

And to the guy quoting when I joined the forums as an answer to my post. I did just join the forums in Jan, been playing on Disco for about 6 mo however. I hesitated to join here at all after reading a ton of what seemed like hostile "you should already know noob!" Postings here. I'm feeling this place out and I appreciate constructive critisicm.

You say its good to invade and such, at the same time you dont have caps... Beleive me, when you have one things change, and from my own experiance, i sit near a planet all day, weapons unchecked and RP and have fun and i get REALLY pissed if a fleet of (example) BH caps come in to raid.
