Check out this article on Wookiepedia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bomber
Quote:Bombers were starships designed to strike heavily armored targets like capital ships or ground artillery. Most of these ships were armed with projectile weapons such as proton torpedoes, proton bombs, and concussion missiles. Even externally-mounted cargo containers could be used for bombing runs.
In general, bombers were slow and ungainly craft, leaving them vulnerable to enemy starfighter attack. For protection, they often relied on both fighter escorts and each other. By flying in tight formations, bombers provided overlapping fields of fire, covering each other.

Bombers in Discovery have more usability, i think that's why people like them.

Bombers in disco are made to be effective in low numbers, in SW they are used in mass.

I won't start again to say how idiotic the film was, but only this :

Bombs don't "fall" in space, since they have nowhere to "fall". Physics. Star Wars always lacked of them, but that was idiotic. The old Y-Wing bombers were perfectly in operation.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.
