whats the point of "being able to fight off pirates" if they're in a gunboat?

Gunboats are actually easier to deal with than bombers, they dont do as much damage =P

That, and all of the liners (prison/luxury/royal liners), as well as the container transport, are capable of fighting off single bombers and gunboats if used in skilled hands.

Furthermore, solid transports with armor can survive funboat assaults long enough for your bombers to make short work of them, whilst bombers can be survived long enough to make it to safe harbor.

Without escorts... Well, it's a different story.

I have warded off gunboats in my ctrans and GMG transports before, but with most any other kind of ship it's a rather one way fight.

I only trade at night, when no annoying pirates get in the way, I guess thats why I never had to fight...
but it really is sad that a bomber does more damage than a gunboat -_-

Unless you miss. Then a bomber does substantially less damage than a gunboat.

Gunboat = Damage over time and largely invulnerable to transports.
Bomber = Hyper efficient, but wildly variable damage over time and doesn't like transport guns.

Well, seeing as transports are minicaps, it's appropriate that a bomber (capkiller) does more damage than a gunboat (fighterkiller).

In my experience of attacking transports, the worst things to take on are luxury liners...one of them almost killed my Dragon GB, fortunately there was a bomber on hand to save me...

Next worse are actually advanced trains with Mk 8 armour. If you catch one of those things within about 20k of a dock point, you may as well give up all hope of killing it before it docks...even a SN will not one-shot a basic adv. train hull, with a mk 8, it takes much boredom to make em go pop. And that assumes you have debs/coladas and are not shooting their shield with hullbusters...

Really, they don't. If you have enough armor to survive a SN to hull, you have a very good chance of running/fighting back, coz you can regenerate that adv. transport shield (which will not drop to a single SN) so many times...

so far the most time's i have been pirated there where lemme see 3/4 pirate's from fighters to GB
so i just pick the one wich looks nice and has a nice cargo hull around 4000 more or less

if im being pirated by a GB i normally lose because every GB has CD on it no use running from it
i just pray some other fighers come to my aid wich mostly don't happen before they get there im shot already to piece's

only my opinion i could be doing it wrong :)

If i dont respond PM me i get lost in the massive amounts of posts here ..............

Getting jumped by multiple pirates is different...and is where the escorts come in. One on one, tho, having sufficient hull to survive a SN can easily give you a chance to get away...any less and you don't get to use that huge pool of bots that transports come with.
