Quote:You can't say something is OORP if you don't know the character's story. I have a trader, for example, who is indeed a borderline suicidal.
You would still try to run first. You wouldn't sit still and say "kill me its cheaper".

OoRP in the extreme.

Well the bright side is that if he is flying a Transport the lawfuls would just blow the cargo pods off since if he is suicidal he'd just let us shoot him...

If he was flying another ship, wed just torp off the guns.

If you, the pirate would give your vitims some deacent pr, instead of "3mill ordie" + "engaging", you might get rewarded with some really nice play, after witch you still get to kill the transport...but oh yea ist mutch simpler to point at others and start crying.

I must agree with Santa here, even if he is a corsair scum ....
But that stuff happens to me all the time.

3 type of traders :

Why dont you talk more to traders ? Because they usualy run, and you dont have that time to type while avoiding asteroids and stuff.
I also get pissed sometimes about something, then I dont talk much to traders... specialy to those with history of runners... so I make it short...
Usualy after they get destroyed, they send PM's : I will kill you now, or they start using the "F" words. I got no respect for those !

But there are this nice traders who stop neer you, even if you dont ask them, and the happly donate you some credits, because they know that you gonna leave them for at least 4 houres, and protect agains wilds or suchs.

And there you have the traders that actually RP, and you negotiate with them, and all sides are happy. That is the best type in my opinion and I respect those traders.

Each type has its own "tax" rate, but still even haniball's are fair.. they give each trader at least 2-4 houres of free trade. so they maybe loose 3 mil in one run... but they are "tax" free for onother 20 runs... So it is more profitabble to them just to pay, and not loose their cargo, or make runs around the system where pirate is .

Doing a simple run in a 2k cargo transport, one can easily make 3 mill each way. Even if you get stung by a pirate each leg (really not gonna happen) and they ask for 2 mill, you are still gonna pay for that transport in 8 runs.

However, the likelyhood of you getting pirated for 2 mill each way is so insanely low (unless you are insane and take the same route over and over, despite knowing that there is a pirate there).

When I pirate by myself (doesn't happen all that much any more, I can't put up with the whining and re-engaging...), I usually encounter ships in the 3k cargo range who are gonna make anywhere up to 6 mill when they reach their destination.

In such conditions, I feel totaly justified asking for 2 mill. Hell, gimme some good RP and it's quite easy to drop me to 1 mill, or even less (saying "How about 1 mill" will usually suffice...).

Bargaining with pirates is almost certain to get you out if not cheaper, then tax-free. Saying "kill me" will result in me shooting at you with my shieldbusters until you go pop. Which not only completely wastes that run, but cuts into your next run's time.

Trading is boring. Even getting pirated must be more exiting than the constant boredom of "F3, F3, F3, F3", no?

NO THIS IS OORP
I would not like this to come to sanctions - however, as i see it, unless the trader has Role Played the fact that they are suicidal and wish to die.. then i for one consider this very OORP. Don't do it.

There That's all i was looking for, i can't be bother to even post reports on re-engaging, let alone simple OOC or OORP, but one day if i get really bothered i'll post one. On this one aswell, so perhaps a trader would get a nice little "admin warning" comodity...:yahoo:And then when he'd come back i could give him a nice lecture...

Thank you senor Laowai

3 pages and a conclusion already?!

I for one agree with walker. I will strip their pods and guns, take them down to a bar of hull, and make them dock. They eventually pay, even the ones that said they would never pay. I like to call them "Really quick learners". Because when I'm on the prowl, you probably won't escape. ;)

Besides they realise they pay more than 3 mill in repairs.

Then its, "Too late now, die!", when the poor RPing trader is trying to pull out some lines.

For me its no problem playing with pirates, paying or getting killed, while sitting on an ATrain with several hundert millions stored, but is see it far too often, some Pirates asking transports or large transports the boring "2 mill or die" and start shooting right away.

Hostetly what kind of roleplay do you expect from them, i myselfe tend to crying for Help and begging for my Life, but Pirates close to NEVER negotiate...most love the killing too mutch, i guess.

You have obviously spent much much too much time in sigma 13.... Only about.. oh 20% of pirates do this... But I will follow your thought by bashing traders

1. Why do they just run and say no words

2. Why do they say "Just kill me now, it will cost less..."

3. Why do some attempt to fight back...

As a trader in an ADV train, I would much rather pay, live and complete more trade runs to earn back my money than try to get killed. In reality is isn't cheaper anyways, because you then cannot take that route for another four hours. Also, suicidal traders wouldn't be verry likely to get insurance on their ships, so may be a bit more carefull about money. Even is they were suicidal, the amount of people who say just to kill them far outways the number of people who are likely to genuinely be suicidal. Fact is if one or two people do it for suicidal reasons, fair enough, but loads of people do it for the cost, well they would be dead so that would be the end. Nothing more after that. That's by no means cheaper anyways. And as admin says it is OORP.

I was formerly know as Spiritar.

It's been a while.

Had this happen to me and our little Corsair group yesterday. One guy in Omega 41 just opens fire on three titans when we make our demands (which is as good as being suicidal) and the other one in Cambridge says "just kill me". Kinda ruined it for us. We don't mind if you dont want to pay, just say so in an RP way.

That said, pirates have their bad moments too. 2milrdai, or just silence while they open fire and take you down to a sliver of hull whereby the NPCs finish you off. However, said pirates are easy to avoid in comparison, since they're quite inexperienced.
