Imagine someone dragging their feet because they weren't making enough money on patreon and nothing getting done as a result.

Passion should be what drives any kind of development; not money.

If people want to donate to the developers then I have no problem with that. It becomes a problem when the people who are donating suddenly have a lot of influence on whats being developed. If you feel like you can set up something for donations without letting it influence your work, then go for it.

However, the community should tread lightly. Freelancer is still a Microsoft owned IP. Profiting off of Discovery will eventually draw the kind of attention none of us wants.

If a monthly support is not the correct mode in people's pov, could I suggest some one time off donations alternative via https://ko-fi.com/ or similar?

The game might be abandoned, but it is still copyrighted and therefore a Microsoft game. Considering Discovery is not compliant with Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules, I would truly suggest not to do anything that would get Microsoft's attention. Setting up a patreon for the benefit of developers will be considered as financial gains, which is not allowed by the GCUR. It is not worth killing the mod to make a quick buck, because you are not even going to make much of a profit considering the amount of people left here.

As if anyones gives a damn about that anymore... Eigos is a really good modeler and I think he could roll with a "donation per content" basis. I believe Patreon has that kind of choice.

All it takes is a report from a butthurt member. Remember when Discovery was taken off moddb after copyrighted content was reported by a banned member?

This.... +100000000000000000000000000000000

No one should get paid for content developing for this game. To put our Mod at risk to get shut down is stupid.

I had a similar discussion recently after providing a tool and giving some donation options.

Most of us here now have jobs, families and commitments. Finding time to play the game is difficult, let alone to build content for the game.

Developers have also got personal preferences and that means that factions with little developer presence can get left behind in the current model. Having an incentive for developing content for underdeveloped groups could bring more balanced content.

I don't think there's necessarily a right answer, but I think it should be individual/donation based rather than buying content/services. I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "I'm doing this. Here are options to donate to me if you wish"
