Fairplay

My opinion on this,
Ive been playing awhile in many different places, many different characters, and many different ships. I've learned there is fair play every where, but you have to let people know you play fair as well. I mean I wont lie some days I will go into Newyork in my Outcast Sabre and be floating around west point when a liberty assault battlecruiser a liberty gunboat and about 4 or 5 fighters/bombers show up from out of nowhere. Now I will role play with them and them with me but they dont come right after me and gank me ...80% of the time. I pretty much engage them on my own because I like the challenges. And the corsairs, Going to gamma in raids I am the last Outcast alive a lot of the time and the OPG is famous for making sure to get the gunboats and cruisers off the last fighters, and we outcasts do the same for the Corsairs. So I guess it's like the saying "What goes around comes around." If you play fair, then someone will notice that and start playing fair with you.

Bah it happens... I have been jumped by a ton of guys and have been in a brawl with one surviving ship vs all of ours. It is a part of combat.

I just like to play, if I get killed by a bunch and die, ahh well it was fun. I talk some smack from my pod and move onto the next character.

It is a game with no real conciquences from dieing other then having to leave the system for a while. Not really a big deal.

...you were in New Tokyo...in a dragon bomber...what did you expect to happen? Them to give you a lollypop? However, I will admit 6 vs 1 is a bit extreme, but then again...in WoW there are normally 9 alliance to 1 horde, so I can see where you're coming from.

It happens anywhere. Fairplay does exist, it's just a bit rare at times.

When I'm in a fighter I actually thrive on bad odds as I can constantly switch targets and hurt people without them shield camping, while I maintain good dodging patterns.

Also, jousting? Not my thing, especially against Red Cats. If I can get behind you I will, and heaven help those that think I'll give anyone the chance to shoot back if I can help it. I learned to use fighters amid bad odds, and because of that I learned the difference between players that demand 'honor' and those that demand 'play the game my way because I can't hit you'. I've been told missiles are dishonorable, I've been told mini razors and sunslayers are dishonorable, and I've been told mines and Train CDs are dishonorable. :rolleyes:

Basically, bad things happen. If you get taken out in a 4v1, just suck it up and move on. Hollow victory on their part and you lose nothing worth worrying over.

Me personally, if I see someone on an opposing faction outnumbered, I'll stay out of it. It's less fun for everyone involved, and usually just makes the fight drag on as the outnumbered one understandably goes into full-on shield camp mode.

Ok for the past few days, as i've been sick, i was playing a great amount of time on Disco server, and it made me wonder...

Is there such thing as fairplay here?

From Outcast and Corsairs, to BAF and KNF... I mean, is it really so hard to try to make it fun for everyone?

Latest example that really tipped me off;

[rant]I enter New Tokyo on my Blood Dragon, and fly near Planet New Tokyo. 3 [KNF] members are patroling, and one of them starts following me, and after few exchanged lines a fight begins. Now he fights fair, 1 on 1, jousts, doesn't shield run(Satoru, kudos to you.). Then 3 of his buddys show up and make it 4 on 1. I manage to shoot the first one down, which leaves 3 to 1. Then 2 more [KNF] guys come, one engages, and one just observes from the side(Arikashikari, kudos to you.) I manage to shoot one bomber down, so the one who was observing enters fight, so it's 4 on 1 again. Then even more of them come, and 2 [KSP] members show up, so it is now 6 on 1. Now it's 6 on 1, with about 10 bloody NPCs shooting and ramming me(I was in a bomber.) So now i figure ok, maybe they wont all gang bang on me, but how wrong i was. Not only the 6 of them attacked me, but they had to missilespam me like crazy. I mean, why? I didn't have missiles, i wasn't dropping mines, i was jousting, not shield running. Still they felt the need to missilespam, in a 6 vs 1. I entered New Tokyo today with high hopes to see how does the [KNF] behave, but i was sadly and truly disappointed. Currently in my eyes the [KNF] an [KSP] are on a rank of lolwuting Corsair indys who don't even know that the forums or rules exist.[/rant]

So now i ask you, is this really what Discovery, the greatest Freelancer server has come to? "Yo lol wut hey dai fire missilez letz kill him hes n00b!"? I mean it's ok from some newbies, but from like 6/7 members of two official factions?

So next time you decide it's 'fun' to do something like this, stop and think how would you feel if someone did it to you.

Ah....but alas....whenever there is "Fairplay" atleast in my experience...it's always generally one-sided, though there are some players (even in Liberty) that play fair, and kudos to them...

Aaanyway, yes, people...if there's a one on one fight, you really should stay back and just observe, unless somebody calls you in for help...or unless they're getting their butts handed to them...other than that, just watch and let the two people fighting 1 v 1 truly have a chance to prove their abilities..

On that note, kudos to all of you who still attempt fairplay in this ever brutal world of disco, xD.

I also take a bit of offense at your little LOLwuting Corsairs comment. It is comments like that which lead to a reduction of the amount of fairplay on the server. Why? Because you have just said that you see Corsair players as different then everyone else. But see heres the problem, it's that your wrong. The Corsairs have just as many LOLwuters as the Outcasts who have just as many as Liberty who have just as many as the Bounty Hunters. People need to stop trying to point to specific factions as the cause of all the ills on this server. All of us are responsible.

Zelot raises a good point. It's really on all of us to feel that way. I remember several times when my Corsair was mobbed by several hunters just because I was a Corsair, and I have gotten attacked by several GC and BDs in my Stinger because I am an FA, I've been attacked by several Corsairs because I am a BPA. In the same light, I have done something of the same to others. The other day, a BAF-P Challengers was attacked by a trio of Kusari Stingers, which was originally just me. In retrospect, I wouldn't like to have that done to me, so I tried to remedy the situation afterwards.

It's on all of us. Think about what you'd like to happen to yourself, and act the same towards everyone else. Within reasonable means, that is. Obviously, Outcasts coming to Crete should expect a load of Corsairs, mostly because it's the capital. In my eyes, going to a faction's capital to force a fight is being a jerk. I have always advocated that, and asking for fights elsewhere are always the answer to that, says I. But, this isn't really relevant to the conversation...

Yes, there is fairplay in Disco.
No, its not in Kusari.

You can get Redcat spam, Ku Cat spam, Ku Destroyer spam, or Traders logging on to BHG BC spams. Those are you're options in Kusari.

Pessimism is the best strategy, 'eh? I thin what you're missing here is the quasi-lawful factions, which have a good bit of RP to bring to the table, with fairplay and fair RP being paramount on their list of priorities, despite the fact that everyone and their mother flies a Red Cat, a bomber which out-turns or turns on par with their fighters. What does that have to do with fairplay? Well, you can figure that one out. Next time, the full story would be appreciated...
