by comparing the number of yes/no votes, and delaying the change until a sufficient number of people have voted

heres a good example of a majority vote

id say thats a very large portion of the playerbase voting in a way that falls under majority

OSRS, for example, has a development based on majority votes, and even if they create something, it may never see the light of day if the community votes it down. this is a very successful system for an online game with a large community that is just as old as freelancer

Why do you think that the people who vote on the forums are a majority?

Because there are more people voting than the average number of players throughout the day.

Don't you know that the average number of players throughout the day isn't the same as the total number of players throughout the day?

Aren't you aware that, if you are right, that would mean part of the people who vote don't play, and that would mean that people who don't play would have an influence over matters that concern those who do?

There are fewer devs than voting people who play the game and yet developers are making decisions for us.

The point is that ideally changes have to reflect needs of a community as a whole.
The question is how to actually understand these needs?
Which system gets the best approximation, and which is better accepted by the community (these might be in conflict with each other, tho)?

Community vote represents personal needs of the members who voted.
Dev decicion, if it's impartial, is less subjected to personal needs, but subjected to personal biases of few people.

We'd just replace a system that's broken with another system that's broken, and cause some drama in the process.

Most coups that I know of have produced more negative than positive consequences for the citizenry of their countries. Stability is a handy thing, but the coup's already happened, there is no going back (not without another coup at least), so we'd better learn to live with the consequences of having allowed it to happen.
