Missions are fine because they call for teamwork (the high reward ones, which are only 500k-up lol)
but everyday defending from NPC fighters is ridiculous, we need something else to kill them with...
Missiles SHOULD work. I don't know WHY they don't work. They should, but they don't, and that annoys me immensely. It seems that they'll hang next to the launchers for three or four seconds before they move away from the ship in question, and when they launch they may, if the solar wind is moving in the right direction, arc towards the general area of the target fighter. Then they will break off and continue on in some completely random direction. I was in a fleet battle with the Corsairs today, a big-ass fleet battle, on one of the 101st's two Dreadnoughts, and I got two kills, a Battlestar Advanced and an IMG Gunboat (not to mention the Battlestar went down with at least two or three additional mortar rounds from the (SOB)IronMaiden). There were at least three or four bombers, potentially a couple of Titans and at least one Decurion. None of the Battleships got a kill. I only counted four times and a possible fifth that I did damage to a fighters' hull. None of the missiles hit; all damage was done with normal Battleship turrets. The only time I could manage to hit the little buggers was with the turrets, and their shields up. Once they're down the Battleship might as well go back to watching for more Battleships (or wait to die, when you're the bigger BS and everybody has their fire concentrated on you). We won the fight, but the simple fact of the matter is that the only thing the Battleships did was kill the other Battleship and act as a point of orientation for the fighters. The point-defense guns don't do jack. I like the flak, but it needs higher damage too, and simply put to make an effective fighter screen with it it would have to take up more weapons slots than viable to still make a Battleship that can hold its own against a pair of Cruisers who have discovered the strafe keys, much less another Battleship. The heavy Battleships with sixteen guns and the big-ass powercore might manage an effective flak screen off of one end of the ship, but they'd probably run out of energy pretty fast. I can manage, since I rarely field something big unless I have a large fighter screen to Kraken-spam the bombers once I drop their shields and become completely useless or I've got a lone Battleship to whack, but I've got the premier Dreadnoughts of one of the largest player bases in Discovery (third, I believe, after Liberty and the Corsairs. And, of course, the Lulzorz.), so unless I get swarmed by six or seven bombers I'm set. The lower-key players don't have the luxury of that fighter screen (and I'd at some point like to take my Battleship out of the Outcast core systems like I used to. Mix it up on the outskirts of Kusari, hunt the Bounty Hunter Battleships, the life). Let's give them a way to survive against the marauding BHG?
EDIT:
Quote:Heavy Battleships aren't meant to be shooting fleas. It's like using a shotgun to kill a fly - not going to work well.
Six or seven-no. One or two-...yes? Isn't that the point? So I should get an escort Battleship for my Heavy Battleship, so that it can hit the smaller ships? Aircraft Carriers still have missiles and CIWS for taking down incoming fighters; why should our heavy ships not have the same?
And since we're on the topic of missions, that annoys me to no end. Got my OC Dessie blown up on a 350K mission in Alpha by four marauding BHG destroyers packing razors and missiles and CDs, so I couldn't even run. I don't think there's a way to fix it, though, I believe you have to have the entire wave spawn with one ship type, so it's all or nothing.

There are other options besides battleships.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
Battleship and cruiser missiles have had their roles changed. They are anti cap, much like big rockets flying to blow apart the parts of another capital ship. They aren't anti-fighter anymore, razors, solaris and flak are for that task.
Have people even read Mjolnir's post explaining the purpose and suggested use of each weapon?
"I have 2 battle razors and they drain my powerplant"
What the hell do you have 2 for? 1 battle razor instakills any bomber, you only need 1. It works awesomely.
"My missile won't hit bombers"
It's an anti-capital ship missile. If you hit a fighter/bomber with it, you cheated.
"My cruiser can't kill BHG dessy NPC"
Stay at 2k and snipe at them with 2 pulse cannons and a light mortar.
Stop blaming the guns, and read up on the info please. In short, RTFM.
Yes well, for people whom are indies, Hiring an escort for EVERY LITTLE NOMAD WING that attacks you is very annoying, and battleships still should have SOME Defense, and no, the current ones are not good enough.
By the way robert, It doesnt matter if flak, solaris and razor are for Anti Fighter + Bomber duties
IF THEY DONT EVEN HAVE THE RANGE & MEANS TO HURT THEM!
Oh yes, mule, Razors instakill bombers? Isnt that impossible since the game engine says you have to kill the shield before the hull...
