- RP laws (no nudity or impersonating an officer etc) which will contain more laws and depth but are immersive.
- OORP (game mechanics: do not use X gun or Y ship in House space) which will contain less laws, are easier to learn and more newcomer friendly

I think these are poor definitions. What you call oorp there is also an irp law, and not really linked to game mechanics.

Its more a distinction between "minimalistic version" which only talks about illegal gear/factions and commodites, and a longer versions that involve actions and not only possession of certain things.

Yes I quickly realised my error after posting but I am not able to edit. Oh well. Perhaps a new, more clearly defined poll is in order.

Yeah, why not have a very condensed newb-friendly list of general no-no's for each House with a link to proper inRP laws at the bottom?

Because 2 different sets will cause more confusion. Better is to make the complete rules/laws short enough to be put in game, and post additional explanations into spoilers in the forum version.

To be honest, I think there are still people who feel this way. A lot of them.

Let's say the laws we have on the forum are just the "applies in space" part of the laws. It means that obvious things like "impersonating a police officer" or "insulting" don't need to be mentioned. Now the space laws of a house contains only the paragraphs that are actually relevant for the flow of the game.

I am new and I was never overwhelmed by the laws
1) you simply don't go to forums, much less read the laws early on
2) green walls of text are also just skimmed
3) You read them and the lore as you get familiar with the game and it's nice to have the complexity to learn about.
If anything it gives you sense of awe that there will be always more to read about and learn down the line

I think it's not the laws but the players
People don't necessarily join to RP, many vets don't realize that 24/7 = the entire mod as it's the only running server really. So when you see a beginner breaking RP, laws in dumb and inefficient ways etc. Give them advice, ask questions what they need help with, where to read it like forums and let them be on their way doing their thing instead of rigidly sticking to Laws they don't know exist, they will go back to them once they are ready for RP

Add a protected beginner badge if people are too daft or bitter to realize this - levels don't really mean much.

I actually don't mind for the Forums to have inRP laws that don't necessarily impact gameplay. I think it adds to the charm, and also provides nice introduction to RP environment to new players (after all that is the RP that the majority of them will read first).

Ingame each House should have a condensed version in the form of an Infocard (either commodity you get if you start in House space or via console command - I'd prefer the console command, but commodity would be interesting also, as something the officers can carry around on them and use to point out violations).

That way if you get stopped by the law enforcers you can do a quick checkup without alt-tabbing out of the game ( for those of us who still don't have the convenience of having two monitors )

Issues arises that if you don't have laws covering all aspects people can start lawyering you how they didn't breach law. And then that law gets expanded to cover it. Rules are the same. In the end, if people behaved better there would be less laws and less rules.
