Debian's nice... I prefer it for servers over desktop systems. Fedora's alright, but the package manager bugs me. And slack...well it's slack. Heh.
No joke there are many many distributions of Linux. Here's a pretty good index of them: Distrowatch.com
I'm using Arch Linux on my laptop right now (actually dual boot with Windows 2k, for the occasional Civ 3 playing, and less often some Freelancer :)), and it's my favorite of all of the distros I've tried. That's the thing with Linux, not every distro is for every person. I originally tried Mandrake, which didn't cooperate with my computer at the time and thus I was led to try Red Hat. That was so-so, after which I used SUSE for, actually, quite a long time. There was some Debian in there after that, too, until I found what works best for me.
So if at first you don't succeed, you can always look into other options. :D
I think terminal got killed in the middle of something important, cause I accidentally hit a wrong button to shut down my computer at the wrong time...
Now I boot and package manager is broken.
Firefox will not start, and I can't get anything much to work. I can't install anything...
Here's the error:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with mergelist /varb/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened
I'm googling... but if any of you know what to do... help!
