The number of predators thrives in direct relation to the amount of prey.
Where fly the fat Hegemons laden with stolen gold, there skulks the sly Molly with heart so bold.

The average Disco player has about 80 ships and between 2 and 200 billion credits. Which he could use to buy more ships (that he doesn't need), buy some fancy lights / engines (which don't really do anything, besides looking pretty) or build a POB (but seeing as there are almost 200 of them in the game, he likely already has one or has learned not to bother with one).

Credits could also be spent on codes (though most of them aren't really better than the standard guns) or ambitious RP projects (which will likely never pass the devs "quality" (i.e. nepotism) checks.

Now, the numbers here are completely made up as I only have my own observations to work with, but it's very understandable that the average Disco player will not bother with trading after spending close to 10 years of time looking at the back of a transport.

And if he's not going to bother with trading he is even less likely to bother with trying to catch the 3 out of 30 (on average) players online that actually will bother with trading.

What you been smoking? For one, I ain't got 80 ships. I ain't got anywhere near a billion credits, my 'bank' is often depleted.

I can't be f*cked with PoBs. Too much effort. Though, anyone who has a PoB will be flying a Transport to supply it. Meaning that PoBs at least do encourage traders, especially since people mine ores to store on PoBs and then have traders buy said ore to sell elsewhere for big profit.

The 'average Disco player' hasn't been here for 10 years. The average Disco player has been here for quite a bit less than that, most of the actual Vets are long gone.

And as an actual pirate myself, you'll find there are often more than 3/30 people online who'll be trading. But yes, people like Combat ships and shooting things. That's why Battlezones had become so popular.

When contending with a monster, you'd be wise to give the devil his due.
