You made a great point. There would be a risk of sanctions increasing for new comers making mistakes in front of veterans. I believe it to be negligible though to the potential population increasing.

Do you think, new characters starting in Manhattan, as it once was, and Manhattan being such a hub of activity that it spawned even more activity elsewhere in Sirius, isn't an target worth pursuing again?

Lookit the other way, a bunch of players are in a serious pew, or a particular RP moment, and don't want to interrupt to guide and help a newcomer, how's it feel for him? Yay nice I get ignored? Impressions goes both ways

Appearing in a new place often stimulates a player to search for information, and while doing so, most likely he'll check the rules and tutorial page on forums. If a player doesn't have a motivation to figure out what is going on around him... well, he'll have a hard time on Disco whatever planet he starts on.

I appreciate the good reply JadeTornado.

So in your eyes, Pennsylvania is a effective filter in keeping only/mostly players around that have the motivation to give Discovery a real try? Am I understanding your correctly?

I don't believe we have the luxury of only wanting those gamers who have real motivation for Discovery.

With such an old game, we need to lower barriers to entry and allow players who are more curious than indeed motivated, to stick around longer.

Correct. There is no real benefit for the Discovery after this change other than a temporary boost of online. I am convinced that encountering "curious" players will result in them getting sanctioned for logging off during interaction, oorp chat, etc. The filter is a good thing, it filtered me once as well, but here I am.

Additionally it would be good to beyond tutorial capabilities as you mentioned, and maybe add the same planet music as Manhattan, system music as New York and maybe similiar layout or station design designs as New York. That familiarity/nostalgia would be great for new comers.

I agree with OP on this as I also when started Discovery for the first time, it started from Manhattan and I remember I saw big battlecruisers and all. Which was pretty awesome at that time. I tried discovery mod like few years back again (twice) and was sent to Penn and it just felt barren and not very interesting at all and I quit pretty soon as well even before reaching Manhattan. Loading into multiple players infront also lets you feel like yeah there are people who are playing this game as well!

I also agree with others, that when I loaded I was not doing any sort of RP, running around the big ships and just doing random stuff. The players did help me out which was awesome. I agree it'll be a lil annoying for the Vets who are sitting there and they'll have to teach the basics but I feel like in the long run that could help the population like the OP suggested.
Just my thoughts!

I understand your perspective, but I respectfully disagree. While it is important to consider the comfort and familiarity of new players, I believe that exposing them to the unknown systems and planets from the start can actually enhance their experience.

Introducing new players to an unfamiliar environment can provide a sense of discovery and adventure, which is one of the key elements of the Discovery mod. By immersing them in this unknown system, it encourages curiosity and exploration. It can also level the playing field, as both new and veteran players will be navigating through unfamiliar territory.

Moreover, by enforcing this change, it encourages new players to seek guidance and support from the existing community. Veterans can play a crucial role in assisting new players in understanding the mechanics and intricacies of the mod, ultimately fostering a stronger bond between players and a sense of camaraderie within the community.

While player numbers may be lower initially due to this change, I believe that in the long run, it will attract players who are looking for a unique and captivating gaming experience. It may require some adjustment, but ultimately, it can lead to a more diverse and engaged player base.

Well, when you change phone brand or update a piece of hardware of software, sometimes you can see a lot of changes right? things were in certain place are no longer in such places, well, Discovery is something like that
The mod called "Discovery" is for that DISCOVER ... You got the basics, explore and find NY Gate and get to your 'Hattan experience bubble, but please, i "DON'T" want this "New Players" going to systems are not "Vanilla" like Omegas, Omicrons, or "Independent Spaces" ... is ridiculous what you ask, leave Pennsylvania, update the Tutorial Buoys and that is fine.... game is pretty simple ... following the same you did in game, take TL and find everything, that "Familiar Experience" will not be really fitting along, we need people like to explore and travel, want to know the "NEWS" on the mod, not the "Basics" ... and i am telling it as a player from more than erhm ...... 10 years in here .... (even if my forum account don't get it at all)

And so shall they fall, all who bear our mark. No matter who they are, no rank, nor title, nor power shall shield them. When the mark finds them, their time is nigh.

I guess its just different perspective but I'm just saying what I felt. Not everyone has a curiosity thingy where if you drop them in an unknown starting area and expect them to be like oh lemme explore this whole area and I agree there will be people who love that kinda thing but yeah its just not for me. I'm getting quite old and if a game doesn't feel nice to play from the beginning I tend to usually drop them quickly..
But that's just me, not everyone will have same opinion.
