yep i agree with you.. you can take out a not so good fighter or a not so good bomber pilot in one of those "mini GB's" but if the skill level match the barghest is too slow.

The gunboat is the smallest of the capital ships and all its good for is fighting VHF npcs. As they are they have no place in PC RP.
:yahoo:Today I could have soloed a battleship on my own, if only I had the right loadout... and then I took out a cruiser almost before he got a gunboat supporter, before that VHF, a Bomber, all without loosing a single B/B, those were all 1 on 1's, The gunboat "rapes",

' Wrote:when both pilots have a lower skill - the gunship wins
when both pilots have average skills - its a 50 / 50
when both pilots are aces, the bomber wins
reasons for that:
lower skills - the weaponstats for velocity are very important and the sustained "spray and pray". a bomber vs. a small gunship at low skill will miss a lot of its high-damage shots, not cause the gunship is dodging, but cause its simply moving and a low skill pilot needs to get used to quick-weapon-changes to adjust their targetting.
average skills means that both are dodging - but the powers of the smaller and more agile ship grow un-proportionally to the skill increase. - a dodging bomber is harder to hit than a dodging gunboat while the damage both can do to each other is more or less similar.
an ace bomber will be able to snipe the gunship from a distance where the gunship cannot really respond. - the dodging of the bomber makes it almost invulnerable and it can utterly dictate the combat due to its much greater agility and speed.
edit:
keep in mind that this does NOT mean that an ace bomber is better than an ace gunship! - a gunship performs more tasks than simply killing bombers - it can also support in larger battles and do tasks bombers aren t really suited for. - a gunship is invulnerable to a light fighter for example, no matter of the LF skill. - a bomber is not.
TY!!! who is to say which pilot is better till the encounter... Polaris gets an entire libby armada after him...
sometimes he wins against all, sometimes he dont. Ive watched it happen.
Glad I started this thread :)
I found a couple of fights against a pair of bombers. One of them is an experienced bomber pilot, and the other is an average pilot ( out of practice, but used to be devastating back in the day).
First fight, both bombers were loaded out with an inferno and supernova + four hullbusters. It was a very close fight, but after I took one bomber out, the other didn't get a chance to drop my sheild.
The second fight, one of the bombers was mounting CD's. Because this prevented me from EKing around in the gunboat, I couldn't see the bombers most of the time, let alone hit them with a razor.
I would have had trouble killing the bomber with CD's on it's own let alone with the other one there as well.
On another note, soloing gunboat in a bomber with or without CD's is always a challenge. I've only done it a handful of times against gunboat pilots worth their salt.
Against fighters you could (if flying correctly) wade through three of four fighters with a properly kitted out gunboat. They are now primarily anti-fighter weapons however flying a gunboat when people are spamming CD's at you is frustrating at the very least and normally ends in the gunboat exploding.
EDIT: I have yet to fly any gunboat with a forward gun in this mod. I am going to be setting up a Liberty Gunboat soon, as it's a ship I've always liked the look of.
@Joe: Lib GB is made of win if you can manage to EK to face a bomber. The real challenge is to hit that little thing with a forward gun that's on a very limited firing arc. You hit it with the gun, it's all but over. If he's got a VIII, he's down to a sliver, else he's sucking vacuum.
My GB, LNS-Porter, currently has two Pulse cannons (Chin and back mount), one missile (Yes, yes, I know, but I got one anyways) on the underside tail, and the four front guns are Lib GB guns. Before, I was using five Solaris and two Pulse cannons. In 4.84, that GB caught a lot of flak out in Gamma for laying waste to the place >.>
Do not use GB Solaris this mod...Unless they get a decent sized projectile.
