Pirate cargo transport space as opposed to train, not to mention transportation time, time that is spent not pirating.
Furthermore, none of my runs at 4980 cargo require me to input two million minimum. (Perhaps I am not doing the same runs as you however.)

well if you just want to make a LOT of credits you can go find a 30 mil an hour run and do it.... piracy is not the same.. its more fun and not always about the big credit making machine.
You can pirate on a transport and pirate for either cargo or credits or both.. and when you full you take it to the closest base which is not more than 5 min away. So its not the "Fast credit making" but its more of a pirats way of making a living.
For me it really depends on the character. With some ill pay even if you leave me with a mere 1hull , others ill send you to hell , activate auto pilot and eject my pod if you merelly as much as dent my shield.
But in general, if you atack me before demanding , the chances of me paying up are quite slimmer. And i even may put a hefty bounty on your head if im really annoyed. Those that you can collect multiple times.
So yea, as i say with most of my traders when im getting pirated: Bite my ships shiny metal posterior.
Sorry if im beeing rude , but i feel a bit pissed off today.
From my personal experience, If I get a notice from a pirate that they want to "Talk " to me, I usually stop. like the other night, I got hit by 2 lane hackers as I came out of the Cortez to Cali gate. The told me to cut my engines, this was a robbery. I complied , gave em what they wanted, and went on their way. Now, I get some yahoo that all he wants to do is shoot me down to 1% hull? Yeah, your gonna have a hard time convincing me all this was is a robbery. 99% of the time if I pay I get killed anyways. Time to start reporting again.
By robbing a trader blind of money, cargo, and then destroying his ability to continue trading, you are killing off the very thing that makes a pirate's existence possible.
Now, if a trader has a chance to run, don't you think he will? Its a fact of life, Fight or flight. Pirate in pairs. 2 on 1 usually convinces people not to try any funny stuff.
Yeah, I understand that your pirates, and pirating is a nasty dirty job, and quite a few of you are doing really well at it, Role Play wise.
Now as to the LPI and the hostage situation, most of the time, the hostages get killed anyways. Sorry to say, this situation is too easily abused. All a pirate has to do is go out, destroy a few NPC navy/lpi/civ pilots, and then he has a get out of arrest card.
When people join the LPI, they actually have to take a test to get promoted from recruit to regular officer, and one of the question is:
6. A Liberty Rogue is sitting 30K above Manhattan, not doing
anything. He has committed no crime. Can you attack him?
a. Yes, die scum.
b. It depends. RP it out and see where it goes.
c. Only on Sundays.
d. Only in time of War.
The correct answer is B.

Why should we pay a pirate if all he does is open fire before even finding out if we're willing to cooperate? You scratch my hull and then you can screw off, you ain't getting my money that's for sure.
Now on the other hand, if a pirate disrupts my lane and actually, you know, Roleplays, I'll pay him with little to no resistance, and heck, even on my LPI I've let pirates go if they weren't causing any trouble.
Edit: Also it seems to me that alot of the pirates who open fire on a trader first, before talking to them, seem to be the ones who complain the most, now look, If you're gonna shoot at me without telling me what the heck you want first? of course I'm gonna run! for all I know you aren't robbing me, you want me dead, Roleplay and you'll get somewhere, Shoot at somebody before speaking, you'll get a dead trader, I for one can't type as fast as a barrage of weapons fire.
There can be many details that effect the outcome of a pirating attempt:
- I think most traders, but I for sure, dislike if the pirate or his/her gang forget to step off from the trigger button before even a word is heard. And might consider fighting back.
- Demanding ridiculous ammounts of money and/or cargo. Again making the best effort to make the trader unable to continue trading has a negative impact on you as well.
All in all your RP can lead to more income than overwhelming firepower. However if you are only pirating to find a chance to shoot at people, shame on you.
For me, when I'm trading, I try to show the pirate I'm not going to run anywhere by cutting my engines (sometimes even before they CD me) and talking to them.
From my pirate's point of view, I'll give any trader who comes near a train CD, then I'll start to RP. No point in saying anything if they're just going to cruise right past you. However, I like talking to traders, and I even have a set of /setmsgs which should relay that to a trader who'd rather run than talk (each one getting gradually madder until I decide that it's time to destroy the trader who's just spamming cruise)

Well said, Queen. I think rule 6.19 is abused and I've never liked it. As a personal rule, if you are a pirate and just "soften me up" then you won't see a red cent out of me. I will either fight, call for help if it's available or take my death like a man. After all, pirates, if I see you in a gunboat or a bomber, do you really think you NEED to soften me up? I think not!
Now, if you disrupt the trade lane or me for that matter and ask for a donation of sorts, the pirate will find a much better result.
We can invoke 6.6 if there is continued, and entirely unnecessary gunplay ... Its called PvP abuse.
Not nice for anybody, as it entails losses of those precious boom sticks. Roleplay, and fairplay
should go hand in hand here please.
