@Ash: We're happy as we are. I argued for the Freelancer tag for a while, but Rogue fits nicely so long as you notice our name and ID. We're not bothered about being able to dock on any other bases in Bretonia either. So far the only base we use is Trafalgar, which is nice and centralised, with easy access to New London, Leeds and Cambridge, which are the main piracy zones.

I don't think Lane Hacker would work either. Rogue at least gives the distinct impression of swashbuckling pirates, rather than rebellious computer technicians.

' Wrote:I ran into you guys the other day. Was fun following you around. I was glad that you kept on moving, rather just turning around and opening fire. I think the buccaneers are going to add a nice bit of flavour to proceedings in Bretonia! I look forward to an official bounty being placed on your heads, or catching you in the act.

Just one thing though, if you are actively extorting money from pirates operating in 'your' space, then other pirate factions should be unfriendly rather than neutral. I can imagine what the Mollies are going to do to you if you go and try to take their hard earned dosh!

And avoid the Privateers! That would just be a bloodbath! :P
Stoat, you were the bane of my life yesterday!:PJust as I settled down to a good spot, the BHG|Stoat" would turn up and I'd have to run off again. Thanks for not blowing me to bits when I was hiding behind that gate anyway.:P

And we're taking up a policy of hunting down and taxing pirates who are operating on what we see as 'our turf'. So regardless of colour or creed (Molly, Gaian, Corsair, whatever) if you've taking the people of Bretonia's cash while we're around, you're a target. We'll be more interested in scrapping with other unlawfuls in 'turf wars' than tangling with the law, which really has no positive result.

That should really happen more to be honest. I especially like this part of the faction as it really doesn't happen enough, fighting for piracy control rather than just because we're enemies deal.

Also with my experiences, I found it enjoyable. I like the idea of something different rather than a constant noble cause alot of these pirate factions have.

Nice thumbs up eh? Might even see me asking to join soon.

I really like this idea, so good luck with it! I've been saying Bretonia's missing a real criminal group for a while now, though I liked the idea of making a separate npc faction and giving them the Molly base in Cambridge instead. :P

' Wrote:I've been arguing that in the Bret Lawfuls chat for ages, but the community seems determined for them to be dedicated eco-warriors, rather than what the Islay infocard says they are.

There's just one little thing about this that's bugging me: which part of the infocard? While the faction infocard has had a part added in Disco about that, was there ever anything in vanilla that pointed to them being mostly pirates? Because I never noticed anything. Here's the infocard for Islay:

Quote:Soon after tourists began to arrive in Edinburgh in 690 AS, Cambridge scientists voiced their concern over the enormous ecological damage that even the most regulated visits could inflict on the planet. Almost from birth Cambridgers had drilled into them the stories of how New London and Leeds were blighted, so they tended to be very environmentally sensitive. A few of the younger and more militant scientists studying on Edinburgh actually went so far as to begin a campaign to sabotage tourist transports in an effort to discourage visits, but with little effect.

Once Cobalt was discovered on Gaia in 740, the BMM began to make noises in New London about the need to establish a mining base there. What had been a quiet, bloodless campaign of active resistance blossomed into full-fledged conflict. Graffiti with slogans such as "GAIA WILL NOT BLEED" was spotted soon after. The eco-terrorist movement had begun.

Eventually any plans to mine the surface of Edinburgh were dropped -- mostly out of fear that it might cut into the burgeoning tourist industry -- but the Gaians had already broadened their horizons by an influx of radical elements from Cambridge who sought a ban on terraforming technologies. Planetform, Inc. was the natural target. What emerged was a militant terrorist group philosophically opposed to the exploitation of planets, and terraforming in particular. The group enjoyed considerable popular support on Cambridge, funded by the efforts of the legitimate arm of the Gaians called the Green Front.

While the Gaians and the eco-terrorist movement as a whole have made little progress outside of Bretonian space, Green Front propaganda is a common sight in Bretonia. Green Front commentators are often present on the news, and unlike the Mollys, a certain amount of tolerance for them exists in the government from those disinclined to antagonize their Cambridge connections. Over the years, the movement has broadened considerably until the majority of its sympathizers are environmentally conscious individuals from throughout Bretonia.

The sole Gaian base lies deep within the Islay Ice Cloud at the northeastern edge of the Edinburgh system. From here, the eco-terrorists coordinate attacks on their enemies within Bretonia space and the Tau-31 system. Occasionally, raids are made on the center of all evil -- Planetform, Inc. headquarters at the Canterbury Station in the New London system. Ironically, although they have strong Cambridge roots, there is no activity within that system.

Notice it even has the half-proofread power of vanilla infocards, much like the ones that call Baden-Baden a luxury liner. We should really sort those out...

The idea is pretty sound, and it does seem about the right time for an old 'gang' to try to start to come together again with the war and other pressing matters of the Crown. They would like to operate just under the radar and not draw the ire of the Crown, due to past history. I could see several cases that a BAF or BPA fighter was in over his or her head in a battle with a Corsair or other enemys or the Crown and get bailed out by a Buccaneer or vice versa:

After Action Reprt:
CO: Lt, How did you take out a GB when your report states that your SNC and half of your weapons were knocked out?
Lt.: Sir, it was a lucky shot sir.
CO: You sensor log shows the presense of a Buccaneer in the area and the rest of the log was damaged somehow?
Lt. : Sir, weeeeelll I kind of had some help with the Corsair at that point, Sir.
CO: You didn't arrest said Buccaneer?
Lt.: I saw no reason to sir, I really didn't see him do anything wrong sir. He kind of saved my rear Sir.

Well, we're starting out with them neutral and we'll see how the diplomacy matures. We don't actively go after pirates in Bretonia, only if we find them pirating or attempting to pirate. Then we might want a little donation. Likewise, smugglers (other than Junkers and Rogues) will be treated the same as any trading vessel and either taxed or relieved of their loot.

I think that situation is pretty unlikely, unless our diplomacy with the Corsairs goes from Neutral to Hostile (which we really, really want to avoid, as we don't want to get caught up in the OC/'sair war). We don't care if someone wants to fight the BAF, and we tend to avoid the BAF (and other authorities) whenever possible. We'd only start caring if the Corsairs were actually pirating in 'our' space.

On the other hand, a lot of our potential targets are traders heading into the Taus, so I can't see the BAF getting too upset at us over that, we'd be indirectly supporting their embargo.

Note that the Bretonians are known for being much less likely to take bribes than their Liberty counterparts. ;

A certain, ahem, 'renegade' Admiral may decide to look the other way if suitably recompensed, however.

May I ask you to elaborate on that a bit? What is it about the Buccaneers you don't like?

For starters, from my LR point of view (more points of view will follow, my MR one, for example):

y'know, suggesting you'll be making use of a Liberty Rogues tag and employing Liberty Rogues weaponry without actually asking us, the LR, for permission might not be too clever an idea. Not too clever at all.
