Personally, I love the idea of racing. But I don't see why we need specific racing ships to do it. I've raced many times in my Falcata.
I don't know if specific racing ships will increase the popularity of racing or not.
Also, they should have no shield and very low hull.
I agree with the no shield, or rather I think it should have a starflea shield to keep collisions from incurring direct instant hull damage
It makes sense that a racer would want to insure his hull a little bit. Paint-tradin' is bound to happen after all.
As for the ship... Tenacity owes me a new keyboard because I just drooled all over mine.
This brings up another point
Nighthawk's comment triggered an idea for me;
Specific racing ships can be for track racing but regular fighters can enter something more like the Baja-500 meets Deathrace on steroids in the underground.
Here is the scene;
5-20 ships from all illicit, shadowy, criminal, or just neutral/Freelancer backgrounds start at a base and are sent to procure a commodity from a dangerous system via a difficult route, or to complete some other task, or simply to race from one system to another via a dangerous and difficult route.
I can see it now, "The 1st annual Trans-Barrier rally!! shooting is not allowed until after you leave the system."
cool, looks like a podracer from starwars, but I was thinking in somthing more... slim? anyways its a good model but Id like to see people racing in different kinds of fighters
' Wrote:does it really need to be 'slim'? It's a muscle car, it has power, that's all that matters =P
Muscle cars though were very stylized in the 69-71 years. Cokebottle lines flared almost animal haunches in the quarter panels they very much cared about looks. The only years that really had just a box with a big engine were 65-67 really after that they became very styllized.
In fact the cars that go for the most money are the 69-70 of the muscle cars (spefficaly the hemi cuda, daytona/superbird (when you have a guarente that you can go 199 mph off the show room floor or a new car what else can you say) unique dealer models such as the yenko camaro or the shelby mustang (infact go look at the shelby gt500 and gt350 I am convinced they are the best looking cars ever made) ect).
While a great emphasis was put on the engine they spared no expense with things that would make the vehicle seem as fast as possible while it was standing still. The muscle cars where also original in the "its cheap because it has no options whatsoever but you still have a great looking car thats insanely fast".
On your design tenacity. I like it though I would love the cockpit to be pulled a bit forward or more integrated with the engines, think either jet likeness (raven's talon like design) or a 1970 dodge charger. Also anyone making racers <3 you and more <3's if you make some more jet looking ships (aerodynamics WOULD be immensly helpful in space for something like a racer. If your racing through nebula it would be a clear cut advantage) and maybe a few shelby gt350/500 like ships flying around. Until then I am gonna fly my lovely tigershark about.
Here's the second model, kinda meant for the rheinlanders, it's based on a radial engine and WW2 plane design... because ww2 planes are awesomesauce =P
-I like Tena's thruster idea plus having an above normal impulse speed
-No shields
-Not minimal hull but small
-No nanobots (that way we could add deadly obstacles a few run ins and you're toast)
-They don't have to be tiny (a hittable hitbox so that those that choose to pester can be blown up)
-OH and DO add a low level gun (we don't want the races to be clean, do we?)
