And I saw .. terrible words written "Piracy shoudn/t be profitable"... your kiddin me? What fool in rp would risk his life pirating then its not profitable? Personaly I like to make money atleast enought to maintain my chars. Yes I hate trading, so I rather wont play a character in which I can't roleplay becouse I'm forced to do it since I am in lack of money. I'll simply roleplay for money.
Maybe that's why traders pay me nearly everytime, not you. When was the last time someone told you "that's how a pirate should RP"?
Because I get that on a frequent basis. Fact is, people leave my piracy encounters happy (as long as they don't run or shoot me, forcing me to kill them). I don't care about credits, I can make them 10 times faster trading. My pirate cares about credits, but my pirate's so poor she thinks 500k is the jack-pot.

I'm sorry, what? When was I ever trying to enforce any one to pirate my way? Fletcher asked for examples of pirating etiquette, so I posted mine. If you don't like it, fine, no one's forcing you to do anything. It's your fault for interpreting my post wrong.

That was so well said that I'm just pasting it as a quote for emphasis.

Which is why I pirate in a transport, even if they don't pay I take their cargo and make more money than if they did pay. I haven't met a lone trader yet that could take me on trans-vs-trans so I always hit pay dirt if they have cargo.
That doesn't mean that I make unreasonable demands.. But I view 2 million as a very reasonable demand. I don't trade, I hate trading. Piracy and extortion are just about my sole sources of income. I do it for a living, not for fun. Although.... It's really fun.
' Wrote:The "Take what you can and destroy the rest" approach has a logical flaw too. If you kill the chicken, it stops laying eggs. In the long run it pays better to take only a part and let the trader go, so you can rob him again in the future.
Exactly the point.
Last time I was on, there was a Pirate in NY working almost exactly that approach.
They were working in tandem with a pirate transport and the demand, even though very much in RP was along the lines of 'drop your cargo', followed by some spirited RP where said Trader has checked how big the pirates hold was and dropped that much, not realising that they had to drop thier WHOLE cargo...
While I watched most of the drama unfold on comms, I was thinking to myself...is that trader coming back to NY ever again?
My answer would be...not unless the absolutely have to and I'd be keeping a log of the pirate's name as well.
Another tip for easy pirating: Keep your pirate name reasonably short! The longer the your name is, the longer it is going to take to get the cash to you and people sometimes make spelling mistakes....
I often times give my target the option, two million or fill my hold. If someone has no actual cash, they can give me cargo instead. And yes if they are a small ship I will of course settle for half their cargo, I won't clean them out if their giving me some good RP.
The larger ships will usually just fill my hold, smaller will pay. (I'm doing this in a transport with a hold of less than 2000)
It's when they decide to "lol, I'm a Zoner and you can't stop me" that they get destroyed and I take everything. No offense to Zoners, but I have had almost that exact response several times.
I'ld never pirate anyone for 500k. Actually, I just take cargo, it is shame to take cash... Really no need for that. Maybe if they're really on my way while i go to sell what I pirated.
I pirate around 1500 Cargo for 4.5-5k cargo ships, I pirate 1000 for less. Zoners, usually ones on route that goes directly trough 41, get pirated for 2k cargo, hoping they'll change their route or start cooperating with the Corsair bases. I dont mind if he never comes around, there's more of those I pirate that will come back.
I'ld pirate a lvl 40 camara for his 25 of 200 engine components, just so he knows who he has to deal with eventually. I have no issues with that, I take a cutt, and I take it to whoever. Only thing I don't touch is things that aren't of profit to Corsairs. But for real. Alien Organisms? Never.
I don't know how can you pirate for 500k, there's no point in it. People just pass trough then, pay you, and come to you freely, without any fear from you. I get the thrill of the chase. Outwitting and some occasional skirmish with brave few that take escorts. Besides, small piracies on well known routes encourage powertrading.
I have to say personnaly that how much you ask is not the important, as long as you think about the other guy a little bit. The important is RP. Here are some "Rules" that I think of about piracy
1. Do not destroy the play experience of the trader.
2. Use either the best english you can do or a mildly modified english for your RP. Do not use internet speak, shortcuts or anything similar.
3. If the other guy want to RP, RP with him and be nice not to demand too much, if he flee without a word, do whatever you want.
4. Do not use /setmsg exept maybe for an Halt! demand.
5. Think about the trader profit and how much money he got. If he got partial cargo or a small ship, let him go. Even if he has a full Adv. Train, do not pirate him for too much money, except if he is the kind of guy to flee without a word.
Quote:IF you are in a shire, Dont think you are invincible. A good bomber can kill you fairly easily.
Gunboats might be in for a bigger hasssle however
But in the end, pirate in a gunboat and you could get bomberswarmed by rich traders with escorts.
Pirate in a bomber and nearly no-one can stop you.
