You said your account numbers on your laptop were corrupt... maybe someone can take a look at them and try to salvage the data. It's a possibilty, right? Can you open the account file with another program to view the data?

Well there are ways the admins can get the IDs to him, I mean they could track the IP and look at what IP logged into each account. And as for salvaging this stuff, well you could probably fix the whole comp by taking it in to a shop or something. And they may be able to save everything. And if that doesn't work, I'll hand money for a train.

And I think in cases like these Korrd, refunding the man should be done. People who deserve respect should be given what they have earned. Meaning, if someone like Missingno lose chars due to comp failure. You should reimburse them regardless! At least 100mil!

I do see your point, but I disagree. I think it would be unprofessional for Korrd or anyone else to use admin powers to make exceptions. I'm sure Korrd wants to be as fair as possible, even if it means trouble for a friend. If an IP trace could be used for Missingno, it wouldn't be right to deny that service to anyone else in need.

I'm just speaking from an objective point of view-- I'm not trying to be heartless.

Maybe if there was a service charge for the trace or some other kind of penalty, it would keep the amount of people who apply relatively low-- and therefore not add too much more to the already busy workload of an admin.

Missingno, I completely understand your pain. I actually work for a data recovery firm, so I see drives everyday from people in your predictament. I would say send it to us, but it is not cheap even with the discounts I get, still looking around $1500 minimum. I will tell from my experience with the general public, that you are in the majority not the minority as far as people that have current and viable backups. My condolences to you my friend. If Tank gives you the Train I'll give the equip for the train and some credits to start trading with.

I'm touched that there are some decent people here on disco that arnt just telling me what i should of done, you help really is appreciated.

I've contacted the guy I work for, he simply said that we will have to 'work around' the lost data, he has some backed up so not all is lost. In all fairness though, im lucky ive not lost my job.

I'll reply to your messages but first off, heres my problem...



I turned my pc on and was met by the message 'ntldr is missing. press any key to reboot'. It wouldnt load my OS so i rebooted but the problem persisted. I could log on or anything (the message appeared in the bios window) so left my computer and went on my laptop and posted up on a pc forum. I was told the missing file could be found on my recovery cd.

Now, a computer i had a year ago was constantly having problems and needed reformating often, so i know my way around a recovery disk. There are menus asking which drive i want to format and futher menus asking about what exactly i want to do. However, on this computer, there were no menus, nothing, just straight into formating my drive.

Disbelief hit me and i just kept saying "i didnt ask you to do this" over and over whilst looking at my monitor (its almost tragicly funny now i look back at it). I couldnt stop thr process or my hard drive could be ****ed royally, so i had to let it carry on. Its at that time i just began to cry like a baby, i mean, im old enough to drive, it takes a lot to make me cry but, heh, i did. My whole life was on that machine, my work files, i produce a lot of music as a hobby, photos and videos, all my game files and i just watched it go, i think it was the shock more than anything that caused it....

now, I KNOW I SHOULD OF LEFT IT! I know it can be recovered but i wasnt thinking straight and began to install drivers, pretty much ****ing up chances of recovery. After installing sound drivers i had to reboot, so i did, but guess what, IT DIDNT LOAD! "ntldr is missing!". So, instead of a computer that dosent work, i have a computer that dosent work with nothing on it with little chance of getting the stuff back!

And then someone goes and tell me that I "should of wrote my FLID down"............. Yeah, i know.





So, to all the people that have offered my money etc etc, its very decent of you and maybe i may have to take you up on it, I just want my account back. I dont mind having to rebuy my stuff, ill trade for it no problem, its the rediscovery bit, i found so much the first time, and then refound most of it (and more with all the new stuff) and now i have to do it all again.... Its that what really gets me annoyed....

I'm scanning my laptop with undelete software as ive deleted and recopied my flid many times on my laptop, maybe i can track down a uncorrupt copy of my ID that i deleted a while back.

Tank, im going to drop my pc into pc world tomorrow, see what they can do. In all honesty, it will be cheaper to get a new computer over what they charge for repairs however. tbh I need a new computer, i can probs sell the one i have on ebay for about ?60 (it rebots itself and freezes up A LOT. and its crap) and just scrape together for a nice new shiny one :laugh:, that would be nice.

And Merc, we'd have to sell the van to raise the fee wanted by a indutrial company! Were only a small business and the pay is crap, but theres always an abundance of old garden chairs (pm me if you want a couple lol)

Because I knew that happened first hand (read, i saw when it happened). And also, supernova told me that.
I'm dealing with this by PM with Missingno. now.
