The Sigmas see a lot of action on a daily basis- smugglers, OC and Corsair raiders and verious other piratical scum.

Check out this thread... http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=15426

And once you get your outfit put together, talk to the GMG| leaders to get permission to hunt in the sigmas.

' Wrote:Strictly lawful civilian services (trader escort, lane patrol, pirate hunting, etc.) are pretty well tied up, between the Mandalorians, BHG, and all the individual freelancers and mercs. You can still muscle your way in, but you'll have better luck if you can find at least one corporation, military, or guild to get a contract with.

Past experience points to the GMG and CR as being very reasonable employers, and you may find a market with RM, KNF, or the Corsairs; I'm sure all of them would love to get some payback against the Mandalorians and the people who hire them without actually needing to put themselves in harm's way.

As Wolfspirit pointed out, there is also the dirty work some corporations will want done, particularly in Rheinland, and that's something most mercenaries don't seem to do right now. A pretty good untapped market if you can get the people together.

I'd suggest Mercenary ID. You don't need cruisers - and if you get a contract that involves blowing up transports, they're useless for that. Quite a few contracts cover that - the GMG bounty board, for example.

Yea, I was thinking of having the 'Official' Face of the faction as nice and tidy and lawful, and then having an 'Unofficial' side, which caters to Corporations, Military, Police and even pirates who want some dirty work done.

I'm also happy with just Gunboats, It would be nice to have a cruiser or two for helping pin down any battleships that may be encountered though. Either way I need to find a faction willing to allow me the use of their gunboats first.

I've started to write up a story, and stopped almost straight away, as I can't really do much with it until I know what ships and equipment I'm going to use. I've so far sent requests to the Zoners and IMG. Just trying to broaden the possibilities at the moment. Perhaps I could even do some sort of RP/Contract event, in which I do an old "Give me the tools and I'll do the job" Scenario. Trade my work for some form of ship or equipment.

As I write right now I've suddenly had a thought about changing the faction to a strictly 'Dark/dirty' Jobs Merc faction. Catering to mostly well.. Dark or dirty jobs. Would be kinda fun. Anyway still jsut tossing around Ideas.

Thanks heaps for the great advice Thexare.

Well, Maybe I will change it to a All-purpose Merc faction, catering to Lawful and Unlawfuls. Seems like a good idea. May be a bit hard working all around Sirius, so I might jsut localise it to Rheinland for now. I still need to get hold of some Gunboats however. Oh and a name I've thought of: J?ger-Sicherheit. Still just chucking around ideas though. I wonder what the chance of using a couple of old (In RP) Rheinland gunboats would be.. Probably to slim.

Don't mind me using the above paragraph as my mind/notebook.

What are the Ronin? And why do they need Buff?

I believe that the Ronin were a group of GMG fighter pilots independant of the official GMG| faction. They need a buff because they're completely inactive.

And don't worry about funboats or caps, VHFs and Bombers can do pretty much everything you need.

Better if you select another place for the start. Rheinland currently not really strong in trader teams. ALG very rare on-line, Kruger same, they give up their mining area by themselves and let IMG and Zoners working there. RepEx sometimes there are 2-3 in same time. Daumann they can protect themselves as I marked before. Indies well they wont hire you often. Currently we have some dozen of Kruger power miner, thats all. You can try with RFP and RM too, but RFP again rare and RM mostly working alone.

Try Liberty, there is enough trader (independent or faction member) who search escort, who can give you enough work.

Why good trading with Barge? For this:

I'd suggest Rheinland and Kusari - like I said earlier, Bretonia and Liberty get all the mercs. Rheinland and Kusari give you a relatively wide area to travel in, probably enough traffic (even if it is untagged indie traders), and some local civilian combat vessels for flavor (Tiger Shark LF and Kusari Explorer GB).

Not as many traders as Liberty, but far less competition as well. Less hair-pulling too.

It would be nice if you chose to represent for instance Interspace Insurance or so. Whose primary job in space would be ensuring legal trade security. Visible tags might be useful, perhaps, because then the traders will have it easier to contact you. At present time, this job has the best income potential.

Of course the affiliation can be completely different. The only issue that could arise is if it would be uncertain. Things can get a bit messy then. If you aim for another simple Bounty Hunter or Mercenary faction - it's not impossible but wouldn't bring many new or interesting things either.

Kishiro still needs a merc corp for an extended time period hire.

Good idea. But consider this:

1. The most important part of escorting is scouting (one trade lane) ahead of the transport. Basically you can do this in a starflea.

2. If you're in a hurry and have to dispose of the pirate sitting on a lane, you can counter anything up to a gunboat in a hf/vhf quite tidily. In the worst case you would need 2 moderately skilled fighter/bomber pilots to down a gunboat.

Anything bigger than a gb can't attack a transport anyway.

3. You're a merc firm. Probably based somewhere, but that base doesn't really belong to you, so... Why would anyone want to "invade" you? I just don't understand why you would need cruisers at all... Actually I don't understand why you would need anything bigger than a bomber. Okay, a few gb's would be okay, and you can use Ahoudori for that. You can do the job just fine with civilian ships. Would be wise asking for factionised guns though.

Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: Oh, sorry, didn't really read that part about "getting dirty", hehe.

So my comment is obviously relevant only to the escorting part of your idea.

But I still think there's no need for any cruisers. If you want to collect a bounty on a cap ship, all you need is a bomber swarm:P
