Another rant topic.
I have 6 battleships. I got 4 on shared accounts. They are useless flying junk.
Having capital in Liberty is like inviting swarm to kill you.
Solaris are of no use. Flaks are laugh. Armor is nothing.
Big mean dreadnought dies to 7 small blue balls from bombers. Now thats something. When its Nova torpedoes, I like that more. They actually fly and make BOOM. SNAC is just some energy into antimatter and then uber damage. Mortars use same tech and deal far less damage per energy.
Id like battleships boosted.
But above all and most posts here regarding LNS-lolcaps - It all fails on mindset of people. On one side are those who love caps and enjoy flying them, while they mean the most stupid people to those flying the smalls with their usual argument that we lack skill thats why we get a BS etc etc. Its neverending story. This game does not possess balance. Freelancer has none. Battleships and other caps are just added scrap. Smalls are designed and balanced to win. Anything bigger is designed to act as target for smalls to prey upon and then laugh and boast how ubergodlike they are.
I get that mindset of most LNS is not of the greatest one (I got 2 LNS myself), but some of the "pirates" and mercs, who seek only PVP, is nothing better.

OOO, what does this mod do?
And it seems everyone who says "learn to fight in a bomber or a gunboat... blah blah blah..." it could aslo be about the rp, not all about the pvp, some people might like to be a command-ship for a fleet of ships, buffing cap-ships wouldnt be bad, groups of bombers, cruisers, VHF, gunboats would still take them out, but it would last longer, it would be more fun, and flaming to the people who like to rp in the cap-ships or like to fly them isnt going to solve a monkeys uncle now is it? Maybe your the ones who cant rp in the cap-ships and only like to keep things small...
I like the idea of it, would be nice to be able to not be scared of 1 or 2 ships, instead being scared of a whole division of ships, seems more rp to me

Battleships are too easy to obtain for them to be made uber ships. Why would anyone every fly anything else if Battleship>Everything else?
Battleships have a weakness to smaller ships, and I think that makes it more interesting than if you could mow down half a system by yourself. Make battleships too strong, and the only thing that can beat a Battleship becomes another Battleship, making all other ship classes in the game completely redundant.

I'm sorry but, what does buffing a capital ship's stats have to do with Roleplay? Can you not Roleplay now? How is it a hinderance to you with Capital Ships the way they are that you cannot possibly RP with one the way it is?
Oh right... "cause I'll get pwned by smaller ships!"
' Wrote:The problem is one of the balance of numbers.
You can only have one player in one ship at any one time. So if battleships were as powerful as they should be - then one player would be able to defeat half a dozen or more - which is unfair and would result in only the battleships flying around everywhere.
If more than one person could be stationed on a single ship - operating groups of turrets independently - THEN you could afford to make caps powerful as you would still have a good balance of player numbers on either side.
But until that particular game mechanic is overcome - things will stay pretty much as they are.
Read this until the point sinks in.
Any one ship is flown by only one player. We do not want to encourage the idea that one player is "better" than another, and to this end no ship is able to take on multiple ships. As I said the last time this came up-
Name any public ship that can engage more than one ship and kill them all (assuming comparable, competent skill level here). Go on.
...
That's what I thought.
It's not as simple as "battleships die to 2-3 bombers". More importantly, "1 player dies to 2-3 players". Battleships are already on the top end of the scale, since only other battleships can challenge them to a duel with any hope of victory. Any single ship can win against a single fighter with enough skill. Any single ship can win against a single bomber with enough skill. Anything bomber on up can win against a single gunboat with enough skill. Same for cruisers. Only cruisers and battleships are even physically capable of defeating a battleship in single combat, and killing a battleship with a cruiser requires a sizable skill difference. For the most part, the 1 player in a battleship can't be killed by less than 2 players not in battleships. That is the top of the totem pole, regardless of what your delusions of grandeur tell you.
----------------------------------------------
We, the dev team, have no intention of making any player more valuable than the next. Some ships might fulfill niche roles, but this is not a single-player game; one player's presence should never make other players' contributions meaningless. Roleplay is never enough to justify one player being superior to scores of other players.

Can we at least get some balance that makes sense ?

It enables any ship to steer using the keyboard whilst in turret view. As such it increases the defence of larger vessels (as opposed to increasing their offense). I wont give the link as it is not an approved mod and therefore illegal to use on the server.
Devs havent come out for or against it - its a case of weighing up the balancing that may be required for its implementation. Personally, I maintain the improvement in skill-based gameplay is worth the effort to rebalance - it is simply more fun and challenge using the mod.
Applied to Battleships - the mod means that bombers and cruisers would have to get in closer to ensure their shots hit the target - as a BS pilot could start steering out of the way of a SNAC or Mortar shot as soon as they see it - whilst firing back at the enemy all the time.
Applied to Cruisers, Gunboats and Transports - they can more effectively rotate any blind spots the ship has away from enemies - whilst being better able to present their 'good side' (the side with the most guns) to the enemy. And again they gain a defensive improvement in being able to dodge and shoot at the same time, from any angle.
Personally - I love this mod because of what it can do for Freighters...
It would also let the Devs play around with different turret configurations - things like broadside firing would be much more feasible in game, and some ships can be configured for that kind of fighting, in stead of the traditional joust.
