@ lawbar: Zapp does mean the velocity of the projectiles. If you mix weapons with greta difference in velocity, maybe 600 m/s and 750 m/s, you will hardly hit any fighter, because the crosshair will be set with the fastest projectile. The slower projectiles will miss the target. So you should mix weapons with same velocity.

Actually I think it's set to average of the projectile speeds. Try activating various weapon groups while on the move (sliding for example) and you will see that the crosshair moves a bit every time you add/change the weapon group.

Note however that in most cases aiming at the crosshair will not ensure that you hit the target. Especially with lower gun speed (600 m/s) it's only usable as an indicator of the target speed.
