Because a Lane Hacker starts as a thug, but as cardamine alters his/her mind, he/she becomes more of a criminal mastermind sorta thing.
The thug stage is important for character development.
Also, the Spyglass is the big daddy of Lane Hacker ships and should really only be commanded by an elite Hacker (one that knows the lore in OORP terms).
IMHO the spyglass isn't meant to be a warship. Its a logistics platform and a giant sensor-station, the pinnacle of hacking technology. Thats what you should RP it as, not a dread-killer. Correct me if i'm wrong.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
They have the same core, but the Spyglass is huge whereas the dread is tiny.
I concur. The Spyglass has more turrets and if you know what you are doing you can beat a LD in it. Though I cannot deny it is difficult, it is possible. In fact it is done, many times.

In Vespucci, hiding in the clouds.
And paroling the system, scanning for enemies into Vespucci.
