I have been seeing a few players being sanctioned due to some arrogant traders running when told to stop, and then shot for running.

A prime example (and this is purely my own personal opinion only) is this here sanction report Sanction Thread

This guy obviously found someone to pirate. Good for him. However it appears to me that this is just another case of a silent piratee, running and ignoring the pirater. And then when he dies, he complains, posts sanction report and some poor bugger gets nailed to a cross for doing what everyone else does: Shooting silent traders. And for the record, he made his demand. "Halt"

This post here, clearly explained by Blood, are the ins and outs of piracy. How can you make a demand when the ignorant sod just sails off and ignores you? You shoot the little prick, that's what. Otherwise they never learn, and you get these lolwuts ruining the point to piracy and thinking it is ok to do this crap.

If I pirate someone, they ignore me and carry on trying to run, then damn flippin' straight I'll vaporise the little sod. Crafty little bastards cry to the Admins, post biased reports and so a poor bugger get's nailed.

I think the proverbial crap has hit the fan, and there is too much leniency on lolwut traders, and too much heavy handedness on pirates. Not one pirate will just sit there and wait for a reply, especially if they are running.
Sorry, but halt is not a demand:
Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt" is not a demand.

It's extremely easy to CD someone while you're typing--the OP in this thread lists two ways of doing so.

You can also type while thrusting. Try it.

Just make a proper demand while on the move ("Oh, rabbiting, eh? That makes it three million, or I'll ventilate your cargo hold"), and then you're clear by the rules. No need to break them.

Note that you don't have to make a demand before starting to shoot--just before killing them. As long as RP is fulfilled, you can shoot away, right up until you would kill them--before which you need to make a demand.

Nice little undertone there mate, makes me feel like a right noob. Of course I know how to chase a trader, I'm not thick. Doesn't mean others have your "skill". And when the prat fails to stop, at all, just let him run? To get the silent upper hand in evasion, thrusting like a whore chasing her pay to a station/fleet/sun and therefore losing your advantage? Don't be stupid, what sort of RP is that? Always in favour of the trader. But ok, we'll take your advice and have a one sided chat before losing out on the target.

The thing is, there can be considerable time between the trader thrusting, dodging, ignoring, and some players aren't just so skilled as you make yourself out to be. The fact of the matter is not everyone is geek-o-nerd and can do everything at once. I can, sure. But the influx of ignorant traders is now surpassing plausible game play.

Recently we have even had people /renameme their characters to avoid piracy.

Half of these guys barely speak English, so to sit there, chasing him off map all the time going "Stop or I shoot; give me cash or I shoot; speak or I shoot" you really think after the seventh git who silently comes along you can just let this crap happen? Nah, get a grip mate. If they fail to speak, or even speak English, why should one play the one sided roleplay? Oh that's right, 'cause idiotic traders sanction you for not rping with them when they fail to reciprocate.

How about you demonstrate to us proper role play etiquette?

Show us exactly how it's done then since you reckon you know

You don't need to "have a chat" before you destroy them, you just need to make a proper demand.

"Give me 3 million or you will die" takes less then 5 seconds to type.

All the problems you mentioned about the "stupid traders" have existed for years and years and I've still been able to amass billions via pirating. I've lost a few due to typing, sure, but I remember who they are and hit them twice as hard next time around.

6.9 The individual ID cards may have restrictions and/or allowance that are not covered by these rules. In the event of conflict, the ID's override the rules
Depends on the ID really:
"Can engage pirates, terrorists and lawfuls within their Zone of Influence "
Molly ID for example, Roleplay is a must demand is not. Pirate ID does not have this line.
Otherwise I approve what is said above, you can type your demand easy.

So............

Lemme get this straight. Telling a trader who is ignoring you to stop, halt, cease movement, don't go anywhere etc is a request and not a demand?

Oh crap, I'm sorry. So that's why they don't stop. They don't have too because they get a choice and they choose not too.

Do Somali pirates ask their victims to stop? No. Do rapist ask girls to stop? No.

I thought this was role play, not a childrens board game.

BANG! You're dead now and I have your ship and/or your 10 million dollars worth of cargo because you ran, evaded, ignored and didn't role play.

You pirates go around the server like you own the place, its time someone taught you your proper role, every time pirates became too bold in the past a large chase ensued. Seems Disco will need one too, i will propose that for the next month all hostilities between houses cease for awhile and truce be instated so every lawful can go chasing after pirates all over Sirius, that ought to show you why pirates in all eras hide in a rat hole every time they see Navy ship passing by.

I saw you walking down the streat, your eyes, your lips, your nose, everything was so perfect. I started singing "who let the dogs out."

The rule is there to stop "pirates" (wannabe terrorists) from shouting HALT! in system chat and destroying all transports they see.
I don't see the issue here. It's so easy to type "2milrdai".

I need some clarification. The rules state that the word "halt" is not a demand. Is "Cut your engines and heave to!" a demand?

No. It's the same thing.
