Bump as I have discovered a mod with this feature.:D
88 flak mod has the ability to high random pilots from bases if you have a card to allow it and they are atleast green to you.
They'll follow you around and attack thier enemys when ordered to.
And by the look of it in thier settings you can even create NPC wingmen from other ships on your account. Which would be a brilliant addition if it was done here.
It wouldn't then just be a case of go out, buy the card, get an awsome ship to fly along side you but you would have to buy that ship sepeartly and outfit it. And if you could only have 1 wingman it would be almost exactly like adding extra players to the server, exept it won't burn player slots.
Sorry buddy but no... We here are trying to increase player player interaction and not player NPC interaction... Imagine a large battle of 2 factions having 8-9 battleships on each side and what if all of them spawn 10 lolNPC fighters each..
If you have problems with snubs in your battleship then you are doing something wrong, if there are not 1 mil of them. I never had a problem with snubs in my Osiris and cannot see problems in future about this. Except if you are planning to go to Iota you are doomed...also the other guard systems. Yet I only got shot down by fighters/bombers 1 time and that was when there were 6 Coalition Bomber. It's not hard to aim snubs and other little stuff while sitting in a BS if you are clever and use the camera moving function well.
I do not see a reason why a player owned battleship suddenly should be able to spawn it's own NPC's. Would be boring...where are all the player escorts then? So for me: Naaah.
You know, Liners have a docking bay...so...let me spawn 10 VHFs when I make the run through Liberty and I'll be happy.;)
That is the problem I foresee. If you create a feature allowing NPCs to be purchased (like 88-flak), then everyone (especially traders) will spam them regardless of RP viability.
What we really need, as others have suggested, is restricted docking on player-controlled capital ships.
For those who fly Battleships , what you do if you encounter multiple enemies in between of lane and some where else in middle of nowhere and unfortunatly there is no backup available to you at that time???
Are you gonna die in a BS against some little ships? Well this all is very embarassing to me.
Well, if you as a battleship captain decide to move through a lane alone and end up in an ambush of 3 pirate bombers or similar, then yes, you are and should be screwed. I seriously doubt NPCs are going to save your hide at that point. Besides, this would not apply to battleships, it would to carriers at most.

It may be possible, but would be quite hard to do, and harder to balance. Admins would have to approve it and then Cannon would have to code it (seeing as he's the only FLHook programmer we have here)
