No you are wrong. The gun below or Turret 3(from the image below) can fire forwrd and backward. Here I will quote you the exact guns locations and their firing arc

Quote:-Battleship Turret 1 - Forward firing only turret
-Battleship Turret 2 - forward/backward/above firing turret
-Battleship Turret 3 - forward/backward/below firing turret
In total they can fire: 3 forward, 2 backward/left/right and 1 below/above

' Wrote:Also the power core is kind of limited, since you can't fire more than 2 LMs even at full charge. Putting BS weapons on these turrets would not really do anything for it,
Using 2 LM on any cruiser is not good. If you want to wait 17 sec for recharge and then fire again with both...fine. I will recommend you to try it with IonCross in single player. The power drain is kinda good even with 2 250 000 power generator.

Read again, I said that 1 of those turrets can only fire forward.

Sorry and yes one of the turrets can fire only forward.
Anyway the entire idea is similar to how LSC should fight a bs. To stay at maximum range, to aim well and fire with all forward guns on it. If the artillery unit is targetted it begins to evade until ready to turn head to head again.
That is the difference between LSC and how bret dessi should fight comparing to all other cruisers which can just move straight and fire mortars from behind.

Are the bret dessies and gunboats even vanilla ships? I never saw them in campaign.

When you make a clean freelancer install go to Data>Ships>Bretonia and you will see them. In the campaign you can see the gunboat patrolling in cambridge and omega 3. As for the dessi, I dont remember but the model was in freelancer vanilla folders.

IF anyone else remembers, the RNC cruiser was also of this type, as it had heavy triple barreled guns mounted on those pylons.

Ingame they had the bs turrets there.

Honestly the cruiser class needs more love and with primarys kinda meh at this point i dont see a problem with increasing their firepower for in-close ranges.

Turn this: http://i43.tinypic.com/313oy0o.png
And this: http://i39.tinypic.com/ei137k.png
Into BS Prim slots.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2jg845t.png
This into a Cruiser Heavy.

Keep others as Cruiser Lowslots.

Nerf the agility a bit and lower the Max. Thruster speed to 140.

Instant Light Battlecruiser. Perfect to bust Valors, but an Obstinate will tear it apart up close.

Works.

In that case I guess I support this, the RNC too.

The alternative option is to just create a second "cruiser" turret for those slots using the Bret BS turret model. Not sure if this is possible, and in the big scope of things, this is but an enhancement request which frankly we do not yet have time for.
