you also can check some computerstores, most of them have cheap upgrade solutions, like a bundle of mainboard+cpu+ram. for a AGP Videocard i would buy a ATI X1600 512MB, got mine for a year now, and for 100Euro (145 US-$) it?s a good deal.

Better don't touch the voltage for now and for overclocking
make sure you have good cooling.

My friend is a PC noob as well and he changed the voltage so brutally so
his motherboard and CPU went kaboom..

EDIT: Btw. you can't beat my computer! Lolz!

Intel Celeron-S, 1414MHz
RAM 384 mb
NVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64 Mb!

:P

Yes, you should not touch the voltage.
With stock cooler, stock voltage, a CPU can easy be overclocked 20-25%. In this case 3.4Ghz should go without problems, and it will be stable.
But be sure that you monitor the temp. of the CPU. If it will go over 60C, set back the freq.

And the X1600, or X2600 (it should be with GDDR3) would be a good choice
:)

My buddy (computer n00b...Not even funny) tried to OC his CPU...It melted.

Go easy on the voltages.

Dave, I can beat it.:P

or you could simply wait till you have 200 sterling, then buy a new Motherboard+CPU+Graphic card, yours to decide if you can be patient enough

I don't think it is wise of you guys to trying to get him over-clock. He's a total beginner at this and most likely will damage his system (which is old enough to have lacking some modern safety features).

Maybe later after HE studies the basic principles behind the over-clocking but not now.

Just my opinion.

Equinox: You'll get a massive boost just by getting extra RAM and a dedicated AGP video card. If you are getting more RAM go for the 1GB stick. And a very friendly advice. I would not put more than 60 bucks for the upgrades. Once you start the partial overhaul you'll suddenly realize that you need to have new PSU etc.

I would do the bare minumum now and save the real cash for a completely new comp.

Flying under radar.
