The system is good as it is now.

Powerful unlawful mining hurts mining corps.

Many IMG| miners in the latter stages of 85 were mining under Molly ID in Dublin because the field was good, the base close and no one could hurt you. There was a bug that set Molly mining bonus to x3, with IMG and BMM also x3. Even before with x2 it was a better choice to be an unlawful Molly miner in Dublin. Guess why the field was removed and the bonus set back to x5 BMM, x3 IMG, x2 Molly (hope that is correct, didn't recheck)... it was too powerful with a base 16 k away and a good field with x3. No incentive to be anything else than a Molly miner.

Also: x2 or x3 is hardly a difference IF the field is not drained, e.g. Hessian miners fill up fast enough in Diamond fields (x2) and we also tried IMG miners in x2 areas that were undrained and it is really fast.

So... if you want to be an unlawful miner: be one. With a x2 and a field that is pristine, you will be full really fast.

A privilege? Running up to anyone not your iff/id and telling them to drop cargo and fork over cash isnt enough?

Its already slanted to the pirate side. This is a bad idea.

I always figured that the "ruggedness" required to obtain materials and cash was part of the pirate experience, same as how you'll often have to completely avoid trade lanes in some systems if you don't want to be blown up. Seems to me the few bonuses we have in place (like gold for Mollys) are adequate.

I'm just saying, when I played a Molly we got no bonuses and weren't exactly hurting for credits. It's supposed to be a bit more convoluted than "legitimate" work, you're an outlaw.

I would like the ability to dock on lawful hig-price selling point to sell mined/pirated ore.
It would be better RP I think.

Quote:Main problem with unlawfuls mining is that it upsets the whole "Miners mine, pirates pirate and lawfuls hunt the pirates". When you get the "pirates mine" you end up with lawfuls having to confront them, but those guys can't often make demands of credits and cargo.

And this is one of the reasons big enemies should be able to treat each other's transports as combatants, say, sairs-oc, sairs-rh, rh-rm, rm-ln, etc.

Can anyone help me with a few questions here?
Do Hessians who mine diamonds in Omega 11 at x2 and sell them to Junkers/others get the market price or do they get a reduced price?
Do Corsairs who spend 20 mins filling up on artifacts get their monies worth when they can buy them for $300 a stones throw away?
Do Outcasts mining in the Tau's stay unmolested by the resident miners?
If there is no middle man, where do the unlawfuls sell their mined goods and do they get best price?
Does an unlawful miner need a mining vessel in order to get any bonus at all or just a mining laser?

There should be ore selling spots in unlawful bases too. This would let pirate IDed cargo pirates to operate without dual logging and transferring cargo to lawful hauler.

The MMC (molly mining teams) having tons more activity then the BMM faction, and ending up catering to all kinds of folk, not just junkers and other quasilawfuls kind of disproved that. Organized activity of pirates that makes them immune to the bulk of the piracy going on in those systems (2milordai-ers risked an FR5 at Arranmore or a 6.10 sanction if they hit their own faction) is not something I'd like a repeat of. It can be abused, therefor it won't be done.

Mollies have x2 on gold, Hessians x2 on diamonds. That's 50-100% slower then dedicated mining factions. And there's a moderate price for ore on the house junker bases.

Indeed sadly is so- there was also tons of lolwut molly miners docking their 5k non rep hacked IDed transports on Arranmore then mining with their Molly ships- indeed we had fun about the good mining, however it was only like 20% of the activity- we had 3-4 MMC ships only.
I agree that now it is better for various already stated reasons, even if this hurt our faction a bit, however I miss the field mostly because it was nice place to pirate, I hope that the 3rd new field in Dublin would be also more close then Molly Base away from Bases and with good bonus for BMM and IMG even if the Mollys does not get any bonus there.

As idea- exchanging the fields and bonuses could make the mining in Dublin tricky- for example Molly Miners getting bonus 20k from Essex while BMM miners get bonus 20k from Arranmore. So both parties must think how to use escorts to secure their ground.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)
