The real issue is the action-reaction. If the time travel occured for the sole reason to prevent something that have happened prior to the time travel, then preventing it would erase the reason of the time travel. Thus time travel doesn't occur, and there is nobody to prevent that thing from happening. So it happens, giving a reason for time travel. The cycle is endless, and theoretically is only possible in case of at least 2 parallel universes, one for each different result.

Edit: Perfect example: Time Machine (film from 2000 I guess)

actually a happening like this , would give birth to a parallel universe, since both outcomes are in fact true.

theoretically that is

That's not too hard to solve. You just need to stick a note somewhere where your future self will find it, explaining him that he needs to time-travel to do this and that to prevent the birth of an endless cycle of parallel universes playing pong with his(your) self.

Maybe sticking a photo of yourself doing something memorable and stupid would also help convincing yourself that it's just the future you and not some idiot prank.

Just got mail...
Quote:'Dear Evan_!

It's me - you. Don't drop the note right away - check the attached photo of me (you) showing your butt on the bus. No you weren't drunk, it's just I - the future you proving you (me) it's just me (you) in the future. Well the future you (me), in the past actually.

So I'm writing you for somewhen in the future you'll have the opportunity to time-travel. You have to use that to travel back to 2012, and sabotage a Hadron Collider in Sweden. Google it, it was sabotaged in 2012. That was me (you). Or actually right now just me, you have to do it later on. That's why I'm writing now. I (you) saved the world. Or you just will - if you follow my instructions.

After that, you can spend the rest of your (my) life in Jamaica, living from your lottery prize money, like I'm doing it right now. But don't come to visit me - it would feel awkward.

Love - you.

[font=Times New Roman][color=#F96807]Changing a letter to bypass the swear filter is not ok. Don't do it again - Widow.

I'm sorry, really. What is the canon for this? I've seen c.r.a.p. not being moderated, or bs too. How can a non native speaker realize which are swear words and wich are SWEAR words?

For different people, especially of different countries, profanity strength widely varies.

This is a place where people can go off topic, the other rules still apply.
