Actually, we could create some additional game server(s) if they gain a large playerbase, although I don't know which game could this be.

Quote:I feel tempted to go there...

Partly because all the privite servers ive been on have people with Horrible PvP skills...

*rolls a Paladin and becomes new WoW-God*

if you want to be a pvp god, dont roll a paladin.

Anyways, why not just have the people who are interested all roll characters on the same official WoW server and start a discovery guild? Much simpler, and much more legal.

But if we do, we're all rolling on malygos, because my main is there and i needs my gold =)

I'd say the interest was mainly due to the lack of fees. Things tend to seem nicer when they are free:P
I know I'm going to keep my fee money for Age of Conan.

well... if you can roleplay your characters there aswell im all for it:P

I'd love to see how TAZ would do, just mining gold xD

Its a good way to learn how to coordinate bigger events.... 40+ people on a quest... 1 screws up and you'z all dead (Read: Leroy Jenkins)

and what is this about it being illegal?! Since when is it illegal to run your own server for a game that even HAS the possibility to run your own server?!?!?!?!?!?!

They are not illegal in that no municipal, state, or federal law enforcement agency will prosecute you for them. But they are against the Terms of Use. Here's where to find the TOU: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html

Here's the relevant text, in section Four A.

Quote:Only Blizzard or its licensees have the right to host the Game. You may not host or provide matchmaking services for the Game, or intercept, emulate or redirect the proprietary communication protocols used by Blizzard in connection with the Program, regardless of the method used to do so. Such prohibited methods may include, but are not limited to, protocol emulation, reverse engineering, modifying the Program, adding unauthorized components to the Program, or using a packet sniffer while the Program is running.

That part explains that you can't do what private servers are doing. This next part explains how you can't modify your game to access private servers. It's section Four B.

Quote:You agree that you will not (i) modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of the Program or the Service; (ii) create or use cheats, bots, "mods", and/or hacks, or any other third-party software designed to modify the World of Warcraft experience; or (iii) use any third-party software that intercepts, "mines", or otherwise collects information from or through the Program or the Service. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you may update the Program with authorized patches and updates distributed by Blizzard, and Blizzard may, at its sole and absolute discretion, allow the use of certain third party user interfaces.

Private servers are a great way to get your account banned, the changes to the game files are apparently easy to detect.

a friend of mine playing WoW says Blizzard doesnt really give that much a damn about it because its actually good publicity for them... of course they will force the termination of said server but apparently only if one of their employee send a report to them.

But guess that when its illegal, better not touch it
(though I'd be curious just how many of us have a legal copy of FL:P)

Of course, you can buy it for like 10$ now, the only hard part is finding places that sell it...

I even still have the freelancer manual =)

PC games are one thing that I do not like pirating. I have paid for every game I own, and I don't regret spending a penny.

Sins of a Solar Empire is a nice example of a game that I 'aquired' through alternative means but later bought simply because it is that good a game. Nothing can replace the feeling of a game case in your hand and leafing through the manuel. Sounds incredibly sad, but pretty much how it is:rolleyes:

I dont have the money for it, my parents dont want to spend on that "crap". I have like a static, never upping 200 CA$, since I have no job (although I do get one this summer).

And I have a geek chinese friend of mine... I'm chinese too (though not that geek (nor that fat))... you can guess the rest, he burns a lot of CD for his friends =P
