No does not change it, because nothing would change at all, it is not like that FL Hook setmsgs are the only way to type pre set msgs in game. People would simple move on the said programs and you wont achieve anything then a bit hassle for the set msg users.
I wont comment the usefulness because space is dangerous and the players need to deal with it learning to dodge and not to sit at one place, it is idiotic to think that one would even give msg to his enemy before open up with his guns on him,so the currnet rules allow the so called carebears type of players to play and the setmsgs allow the pvp type of players to play making both sides happy.

No seriously, set message is a tool, it can't be good or bad. It's how someone use this tool. I find it quite useful both playing a prey and a predator.

I'm not a secretary, so having preset messages "What'cha you want from poor Junker?" and "Stop, please. Let's be reasonable." is OK to start interaction with a robber. I am showing him that I'm not a "silent trader" and if he goes /1 /2 *boom* I've got my solid proof.

While being on the opposite side I cant at the same time CDing "silent trader", keeping hif off trade lane and composing messsages like: "*Ship isn't responding, probably unmanned and is a threat able to ram into station* It's a last warning. Indicate you alive or be disposed!".

And no I'm not limited to these set messages, if I see that player is willing to interact I'm happy to RP with him, but if he don't bother to answer me even with a set message, why should I bother to make efforts for such person?

So, please leave set messages, cause anyway - "Lowluts using them to bypass RP will still be Lowluts if they are removed", as was stated before, but I'll be left without useful tool.

Make them usable in group, since that's a lifesaver for organization.

So to sum it up i find set messages "NOT" proper RP, and as such refuse to RP back. Use set messge that meaks no sense and enjoy your free blue message. It is a game, and i will not lose a thing from it.

I couldn't agree more, a definate Yes from me. I'd express my views but I have already done so before and there isn't much more I could add to your post.

It's people with set-messages like this that Disco needs more of, compared to the pirates leaving setmsg demands and counting to 5 in their head.
I've often seen a few transports using /1 or /2 as a mere response to my /L9 Name: "Greeting-in-house-language-style, #t" before I type out any general 'how's space treating you today?' sort of questions.
We just need them to be used correctly or for responding quickly enough.

since there was nothing More important than Setmsg , yeah...feel free to remove it ...or Add Msg Templates for Lawfulls or unlawfulls so they could Use it in the way they see fit.
