Yes, Jinx has the strong point here although there are some major flaws in it actually. If that said person follows the rules of the game that go: "first ID then ship" he should be doing few missions in the space where there are RM. Lets say, he does have a job and he's your average newbie joe and he has 2 hours a day to play. Lets say he's started to take few missions and he's seen flying trough the space. I'ld say that he should probably meet few of the Rm fellows who should explain the "do's" and "don'ts" to him and even if they are somehow missed, he should, if he's a roleplayer as jinx says - notice them.
If not when flying his ship and doing missions, then when flying in his trader doing the profit runs to earn his lovely ship.
I know it sounds bit far fetched, but seriously, they don't sprout over the night just like that. All players that are long enough around to trade for the ships are long enough to get introduced to forums or to some faction or to the general rp rules around.
Then ofcourse, you have those silent types that get their train, and then do millions of runs, don't talk to anyone, dont respond to piracy, don't respond to officials, they seem like bots, and then they get the ship as well. And then they complain.
And then they start a thread about it although their trader is the most silent guy in the space and rather choses death than paying up some loot or cash. And then their topic turns to 8 pages of flames with 1 page of links where he actually wrote a story. Hypocrites.
To sum it up, forum could be bit more user friendly, but so should the new people.
Thats exactly why I proposed that the LSF or ANY liberty organisation actually PAYS newbies cash for answering the forum rules questions correctly, for doing missions for getting their first fighter and everything like that. Yes, it costs, yes it costs at least 20mil a week or more, but hell.. I'ld donate and I'm sure alot of people here would just to get the trial by forum posts removed from here.

Ok... I am staying well away from this one apart from to say that people know my veiws on ithe capship issue.
Perhaps finding some place wherw e could gather all these faction specific rules together would be a good idea and make it so we have less confusion and thus less flames.

Working on it right now, just hunting down links and stuff.

One for my class to look at.
Bless me brethren for I have sinned....
I have to be honest, it was quite a while before I joined the forums, I had been playing for a bit and had actually progressed to the point where I had a ....Praefect Cruiser! I was so proud of it. But...the nagging feeling of being bored persisted. And no one said anything about it, until a TBH member suggested privately that it was more FUN to fly a bomber as part of a group than roaming around trying to play ...fnarr... by myself.
It is possible to play a long time and not interact with others. In-game some faction members can be pretty impatient and I think what really swung enjoying Disco for me was a friendly, clear green text in-game from a faction member explaining things and inviting me in. I know it isn't always possible to do so in-game but experienced players can make a hell of a difference with a few thoughtful bits of advice rather than pages of demands.
Ironically a player can avoid entire roleplay if he/she wants to, rack up billions in mindless trading, buy a ship and there we go. But at the end of the day it'll be that person's fault for intentionally avoiding roleplay and then buying biggest ship only to find self completely out of place.
Education can help a lot, that's a good constructive suggestion in my opinion. But nevermind that some people don't want to be educated, they want to do whatever they want and get away with that. Rude and unwanted guests that come into your house and claim it as their own by the size of their gun.
gotto make it a bit clear - its not as much that i mind limiting the use of ships of any kind. - its the hostilities that result from it. ... and there are hostilities. the rules we have are very complex, sometimes complicated and only really to grasp when you "know how disco ticks" sort of.
( example: when you come from a star trek universe, you will think that capships are by far the most common sights, while fighters are a rarity. )
what we "may" add to the rules is some sort of "philosophy" of disco. - a general idea of what is expected. not as a rule as such, but more oft kind of what is appropriate for THAT server ( not for RP in general, cause RP depends on the enviroment played in.... and all disco tells the very new player is: "disco tries to keep the original feeling of freelancer" - but its vague what the "original feeling" actually is )
furthermore, if there were really clear RULES about capital ships ( which is no problem to have ) - we d not dig in the dark all the time when this issue pops up every week. a problem that many new people have is that they feel unjustly treated. if it was down in the official rules that "official factions" ( if they existed ) had the right to enforce certain laws ( not only necessarily only ships, but also general policies such as licenses, patrolse etc. ) we would have rulebreakers, - but we wouldn t have people that think they did everything within the rules and get punished for nothing.
usually - the people that are yelled at and that yell at others here are not the ones that "attempt" to get a capship and fail, its more those that got it allready and are told that they are "unjust owners" of it. - if it was in the rules that you have to get the permission from the factions ( along with a link to the leaders/faction pages ) this issue could be solved.
...
BUT ( yea, there is allways a but ) - that puts the faction leaders / facitons into MUCH more work. think of the faction approvement. - we approve factions now, and some promissing factions were put into the waiting loop - forever. this must never happen.
i think to be fair ( including faction approvement ) ... there should be a fixed "longest" waiting time. if the responsible people haven t responded with a "yes" or a "no" ( with an appropriate explanation why its a "no" ) - the applying player must be granted access automaticly.
cause if a faction claims to have the authority, it must also work for that authority. - and take the consequences. - one cannot just claim the nice bits of a deal but must always also take the tough ones.
Its written evrywhere.
Its a Role Play server.
I still consider myself as a nebie here.

Having factions limit the purchases of capital ships is the only way to prevent massive cap whoring (Even more than it is now. Horror!) ... And that's the reson why we should have a BHG guard that limits the purchase of BHG capital ships!
Please note these are not binding by server rules, but player factions will be upset if you ignore the restrictions they have put in place. It is considered good form to have some sort of RP background ready. One that is feasible.
Osiris BS requires approval from Black Squadron Admiralty, specifically DBoy1612
Zoner
No restrictions at this time
Rheinland Military
Rheinland BS is considered illegal to own unless a commanding officer of the Rheinland Military player faction. All other capital ships require approval from RM high Command, Virus or DBoy1612
Red Hessians
No Restrictions at this time
Liberty Navy
All capital class vessels operating within Liberty require registration. House Military vessels are banned from Liberty space.
Liberty Rogues
No restrictions at this time
Lane Hackers
Lane Hacker Gunship: It is suggested to request permission from the Lane Hacker player faction before buying this ship.
Junkers
No restrictions although it is generally frowned upon to be flying a capital class vessel under the flag of the Junkers without a good RP reason.
Corsairs have restriction actually, the ship needs to be aproved from one of two official factions. Benitez or TBH should give more info but there are restrictions. (we're working as well damnit!)
