Something to keep in mind is that events, especially ones in the past, which have relied on specifics and preset states and outcomes, have usually ended up not going completely as planned. What this event has confirmed, however, is that the playerbase on Disco is still very much interested in an event-driven server activity as the server was maxed out during these times. It also seems that players are much more inclined to log for admin-made events, rather than faction-made ones.
This is just another sign that Disco in the state it is now desperately needs a green DM person who can create such large scale or mini-events. Since Conrad is potentially one of those people, and probably the only green-team member who has the time and motivation for this, I'd suggest you look at the outcome of the event from a more optimistic point of view.
Tbh, Nomads should not have won against the combined efforts of the houses anyway. That was the whole point of the singleplayer campaign, was it not? That they were trying to divide them -because- they could not have defeated them otherwise?

PSA: If you have been having stutter/FPS lag on Disco where it does not run as smoothly as other games, please look at the fix here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid2306502

Point made. That, or the Nomads really liked being inside humans. Maybe they got to drink Sunbucks or something.
I forwent my original plan for the event and decided to show on just a camera ship so as to record everything. Can't say I got the best shots: a number of problems sprung up that will cut deep into how much footage I actually came away with, but I should have enough for a video, similar in caliber to Operation Spear.
Expect to see it in a week or so.

Agreed. A roleplaying server, with active admins, without events is just completely incongruous. I'd even go so far as to propose a dedicated Events team within the administration to run weeklies - doesn't have to be big stuff like this, but *something*. Pirate raids on houses. House raids on each other. A giant ISC shipping convoy running loops around Sirius or the SpanishCorsair Treasure Fleet. Blockade Manhattan and see what happens.

Official Player Factions and even indies do that already.
So, some thoughts. I'll try to organize them, but it's 1am and my brain doesn't work great at the best of times so...
(for those who don't know, I was there as Wilde.Wesen)
General;
I had fun, it was different from the normal "log, sit in space and wait for a trader/military, shoot, repeat" flying that I've done for most of the last decade. I got to see new systems, blow up some evil humans, hang out with some people I wouldn't normally, and generally had a good time. Considering I saw the server at 100+ pop for the first time in a long time, I'd say other people were interested in the event too.
Obviously the server was going to crash. It's a 15 year old game that wasn't designed for what we are using it for. We know it's going to lag and crash. Deal with it and move on.
I think I had 30+ people shooting at me all at once. I could barely see my ship there was so much incoming fire. Felt like the good ole days.
Order;
Of course it was the Order that the Nomads were sitting right on top of as they popped out of the jump hole. It wasn't intentional or planned that way. I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to interact more, and I know if I was in your shoes I'd be annoyed. But from our perspective, there's only one thing for a Nomad force meeting an Order force to do. Add to that a time limit where if we don't kill you quickly, we're going to be facing 5 fleets and we have an opportunity to take you out quickly, well, that's what I (the player) would expect you (the player) to do if the situations were reversed, because that's how it would go in real life. If you guys want to do some less shooty roleplay events PM me with ideas and let's see if we can't work something out.
Admins;
Thanks. I had fun. I know these events suck to do. 2 thoughts for you guys. The more preparation you do ahead of time, the better off you'll be. I know its overwhelming having 20 people PM you the same question. The more information you can get out to team leaders ahead of time, the better. For these events I'd suggest having one person on each side be the team lead, all communication has to go through them.
Second, you guys know, or should know, that the Nomads aren't cap-heavy. They're never going to be able to field a force that can go toe-to-toe with 10 battleships/carriers. There needed to be an incentive for the humans to shoot each other. I tried to get KNF to have a vision of BAF shooting their battleship but that got interrupted by the first server crash. Would have been nice, but oh well.
Third, unregistered caps should have been beamed home or to Bastille, that would have helped a lot.
Camera guys
Hope you got lots of pictures.
KNI
Stop. Dodging!
Nomads;
Stop complaining that you're outnumbed. I'm going to go full "old man yelling at clouds" on you for a minute. Remember when I said "being shot at by half the server felt like old times" above? Yeah, I'm not kidding, 10 bounty hunter battlecruisers chasing my lone Scorpion was a regular occurrence. RM/RHA/Bounty Hunters/Blood Dragons/GMG would create huge posses to hunt down two Wilde in the Sigmas/New Berlin.
We are the bad guys from the story line. We are the boogie men, the nightmares, the thing that terrifies humanity into working together. Part of the time we're the last thing some poor trader or miner sees. And that's awesome. But the flip side of the coin is that we get hunted by everyone. If you can't handle that, you shouldn't be roleplaying as a Nomad. That's a basic fact about them that you won't change.
From a literary perspective, the bad guys lose. You don't see to many James Bond villains walk away. Again, basic fact of Nomad roleplay, if you can't handle that, find a different role.
So what does that mean for these events and playing a Nomad? It changes the focus from "have to win" to "provide a good story for my fellow players". Be a good opponent, fight hard, don't give them an easy victory. Play your role well. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed in how many people said "We're going to lose, so there's no point in joining." Yes, we're going to lose (probably), but come make the humans earn it. Help them have fun and polish your dodging skills.
And really, what are you losing? Some credits? I'll refund whatever you lost today, and I lost all my bank accounts and am down to a Clydesdale with 20 million. Bats/Bots are cheap. Lose the event? Who cares? It's a video game. Lose the Suncrusher? See above about being the bad guys. Draw up a new series of events and see if that one works.
General;
I saw a lot of whining today. It's easy to sit back and complain. Grow up and help be part of the solution.
Again, I had fun. I'm looking forward to the next event.

Well, do it more!
Two things here:
1. There is already enough that is done. Join an Official Player Faction. They do convoys. They do raids. Just look at what is happening between Bretonia and the Omegas in the recent days. There is enough offered. You just need to actively take the opportunity and not wait for "EVERYONE IS ALLOWED PEW PEW" events where you can partake as a 20 million freelancer. Put some effort in your trading. Everyone else did as well. Stop complaining about not enough offers. Do your part. Ingame. InRP.
2. Remember the people do this for free. They don't get money like certain other games pay their admins and developers. This is just a 'small' server and you can be glad about playing here. Also, people not only do this for free, they have also to ensure they can do that by maintaining their own lifes. There is only so much an admin can do, and by the amount of stuff that is behind the scenes, you maybe can imagine they don't have always the time to do events, no matter how big they are. Or the motivation, in times like these. Aside from that: There are spontaneous events done by the admins, be it just another gallic invasion in Lolberty or a Humans vs. Nomnoms in the Nomicrons. Seriously, it's an RP server and people who are complaining about not having enough to do should think about what they are actually doing. Want something to do? Stalk Auxesians. Usually shit hits the fan when they group up, and you're always occupied with some weird RP. Want some piracy? Grab a friend and go to Lolberty and Bretonia, pirate some miners and haulers with an open mind for alternative pirate roleplay, not just pew. (Okay, hard in Lolberty to not just pew.) Want to partake in a big convoy? Ask the Johny Walker of your confidence. He usually makes what I call 'Beginner Convoys' from Pennsylvania to Okinawa and back. If that's not something for you, join an Official Player Faction. They do convoys as well.
But the most important thing is: Become active yourself instead of just waiting for everything to be done by non-payed guys who get shit-flaked as soon as they really dare to do an event. Sure, there is plenty of things to criticise, but with shitstorms of negative or lolwut-critic, it's no wonder people don't have the motivation to do something easy-to-join, because easy-to-join is easy-to-abuse.
Kudos for a great event. I could only be there until the first server crash, but that already was good fun. I know that you put a lot of work into this, so let me tell you that it was definitely worth it.
I was there in a Scorpion, essentially a flying barn just waiting to get killed and you know what? I didnt expect to survive this at all, it was still cool
@ the Nomad players: See what mwerte wrote, we are the bad guys, we are going to get killed, its some part of our job description and has been for most of the time. Can that be frustrating? Sure, it can. But thats the price you have to pay for the 'bad guy' ID you use, which doesnt really have a lot of restrictions in exchange.
@All Staff who organized this event: Well done and THANK YOU for your hard work!
@All devs who created those models (@Treewyrm dude, those nomad things are incredible) - the system and ambiance was absolutely out of this world!! That was AMAZING, I cannot stress this enough.
The server had 130+ players at one time before the first crash, this tells us something - we were doing something right.
Despite all the OOC, the fun was there and everyone was excited.
