I dont play a zoner trader, because the most profitable trade routes were ore routes, and they were all in house space.
I dont play a zoner warship, because they're pointless as the zoners are not at war with anyone (besides the nomads, who are suspiciously absent, and have no missions against them).
And in general I dont play zoners because I dont care about the edge worlds. I find them boring. The houses, are where all the people and politics, and war, achievable goals and storyline progression are, who cares who owns some blank asteroids in some empty system out in the middle of nowhere?

I love edge worlds for some odd reasons. So, I am inclined to play all the edge world possibilities like sairs, OCs(my most favourite 2 factions since vanilla) and Zoners.
So, when get bored, I do simple trade runs with my zoner whale.
Zoner roleplay is quite straight forward - "Neutralish" .. But popping it out at right time in right amount is the necessity out there. But yeah, well for pewing, Zoner ain't a favourable option, not even a slight ..

BHG core might never have gotten a foothold in the Edge. Outcasts wouldnt have got a place to dump off their cardi, or buy vital supplies not available at Malta. you get the logic.
I hate to be that guy but every single sentence here is false and wrong in so many different ways that i have to say it.
NO zoners do/did none of those things.

FREEPORT 9 -- Corsairs and Zoners get along together reasonably well because of the large quantities of Corsair Food produced on Freeport 9, but there is some question as to whether operations like it will continue to be allowed to operate so freely by the Corsairs. The presence of Bounty Hunters in Zoner freeports has been the source of mounting tension between the Corsairs and their deliberately neutral neighbors.

CRETE -- The Family Elders of Crete are discussing plans regarding the construction of biodomes. If successful, Corsairs would never have to worry about the Food shortages that have plagued our people for the 800 years since we were cast upon Crete. In recent years famine has not been a major issue for the Corsairs due to the wealth brought in from the Artifact trade and piracy. But the problem would be completely alleviated with the addition of biodomes, which could sustain the entire population for a fraction of the price now required.

CRETE -- Many Corsairs believe that it is no longer necessary to tolerate the Zoner presence in Omicron Gamma's sister system. There is concern that they allow Bounty Hunters to come too close to the home world. It has also been argued that the biodomes in Freeport 9 could be salvaged after the Zoner expulsion and used to grow food solely for Corsairs. Right now the Zoners enjoy relative safety in Omicron Theta, but that could soon change.

So let's recap shall we:
In vanilla the corsairs, had a bad year when they sacrificed the Ventru line but that was ages ago, these days they are having problems with food because they are expanding so fast. And because of that they Tolerate the zoners for now but they will surely kill them all when they finally built their own biodomes, or sooner. They will only rely on zoners IF and only IF they lose the war with the hessians.

And i can demonstrate with facts that every other line in the original quote is false.
seriously, I have no hqte against anybody. this is my point of view. what you say IS right(I dont deny it) , but still, you cant always live by yourself. I dont see who sold the building components for Tripoli etc. . I did m3ntion some parties tolerate zoners only minimally, in this case, the corsairs . But, according to vanilla lore, Bunters only had 2 bases in sirius: Sheffield and Deshima . so, as of 801 A.S , zoners were the primary hosts of the bounty hunters in the edge(ofc they were rich, but this is according to vanilla lore, cant blame me).
Again, I have nothing against you guys. just my opinion.
@Bloodl1ke : I feel this thread is turning into a ragefest, if you feel the same, please have it locked.
Most of the replies so far have been serious and pointed out the mentality of different players regarding why or why not they're playing a Zoner. So until it turns into a real ragefest, rather than the simply argument between you and Scumbag i don't see why it should be locked. Of course if people stray too far away from the topic's intention ye I'll ask for a lock.
I did go a bit offtopic, but everything i wrote helped me form my own opinion: zoners are the people of Sirius who scratch a living in the outskirts of the galaxy, they have no real power. I don't play a zoner because this is a pvp based game, and i'm here to pvp. But i agree that zoners have a lot of RP potential as semi-lawfull traders, maybe similar to junkers and hogosha.

except for the fact that they have a shield called diplomacy , a sword called neutrality and a whole lot of freeports and bases.
