Athenian, stop lurking, m8. What do you think?

I like lurking.

I find the idea of shortening my name insulting, degrading and downright inconsiderate. This isn't some Linberty maternity hospital full of "Joes" and "Bobs". Bretonian names are long because long names are a sign of good breeding, manners and class. They are symbolic of our finest Bret traditions, and damnit anyone who doesn't like it can eat my tachyon blaster.

This all seems a little complicated. If the purpose is to establish who is in charge in game then we are in serious trouble. There are rarely issues over who is in control. A quick glance at the roster will provide that.

Fleet admiral: BAF|Adm.Initial.Lastname
Commodore: BAF|Com.Initial.Lastname
Captain: BAF|Capt.Initial.Lastname
Commander: BAF|Cdr.Initial.Lastname
Lt Commander: BAF|Lt.Com.Initial.Lastname
Lieutenant: BAF|Lt.Initial.Lastname
Sub-Lieutenant: BAF|S.Lt.Initial.Lastname
Ensign: BAF|Ens.Initial.Lastname

If my name fits, anyone's will

BAF|Cdr.Sir.R.Brinkley (22 characters)

Bear in mind his full name is Sir Roger Bertram Brinkley, CC, formerly of Queen Carina's Own. The things I do for my country. Are we dispensing with the old regimental insignia, sir? At this rate every Simon Socialist on Leeds will be breaking wind in the palaces of the monarchy within weeks.

Or Aubrey's suggestion.

I can't make much sense of the [][* thingies.

That could work though we don't get our first names.

Oh and above, need to add Admiral and delete Sub lieuteneant, and modify a bit so its:

Fleet admiral: BAF|FltAdm.Initial.Lastname
Admiral : BAF|Adm.Initial.Lastname
Commodore: BAF|Com.Initial.Lastname
Captain: BAF|Capt.Initial.Lastname
Commander: BAF|Cdr.Initial.Lastname
Lt Commander: BAF|Lt.Cdr.Initial.Lastname
Lieutenant: BAF|Lt.Initial.Lastname
Ensign: BAF|Ens.Initial.Lastname

Its almost poll time, methinks.

Bah! Encouraging laziness and a lack of initiative, in my mind, chief!

The peons should know who outranks them, and the guys in charge should assume everyone else is a footslogging gruel-slurper! Keeps everything nice and orderly, sah!

To be honest, I can't keep track of everyone anymore..

I'm 37, and senility is going to be such a smooth transition for me.

You're the Fleet Admiral! No need for paperwork, boss! Everyone is your inferior! Leave the details to them! Delegate, dammit!

Basically, if you're a recruit, everything is easy... you know that everyone is above you.

If you're a Fleet Admiral or whatevertheQueencallsitthesedays, everything is easy... you know that everyone is below you.

If you're a Captain, Commander or Jolly Recruitment and Beer Guardsman, things are a wee bit more hard, since you have to remember who's inferior and superior in rank. Ah well, those that remember will show their worth and advance in good fashion, showing competence!

On the other hand, all these stripey thingybobbies will only cause confusion. How will Recruit Johnnycomelately know who is who with all these doodads, eh? Hell, the Fleet Admirals and Dashing Sergeants will forget too, I bet.

Keep it simple, squire!

Voting!?

Since when did we let democracy into the ranks, sir?!

Soon we'll have women driving and cola with our breakfasts!

Actually m8, this won't apply to privateers anyway.

Bah! One has to spout one's opinion anyway, seeing as how beeing seen with such badly uniformed and attired individuals would make one's own team of vagabonds look downright lacking in class and style, sah!

On a more serious note... it looks... untidy. Personally, I've never had trouble remembering who outranks me, for instance, in any faction I've been in, regardless of its size.
