Why do people assume Freelancer IFF = lawful disposition? Barrier Gate is already a hive of prostitution, drug dealers, pirates and assorted scum.

Other than the semantic argument that your request already exists, nexus systems aren't good design. The universe is the size it is for a reason, ditto for the amount of time it takes to travel around it.

Shortcuts shouldn't be introduced unless there is a compelling reason to do so - see the Baffin/Coronado corridor through the Taus. Even then that wasn't so much a shortcut as an alternative.

I don't see why people wish to have pirate bases, in Freelancer IFF'ed stations you already get Pirate ID for sale, Blackmarket engines (union corse, council and etc), ilegal cargo and bribes for official factions. Isn't that already what you want from a pirate base? Pirates even use Freelancer IFF on their ships, they are just a diferent type of Freelancer like the Miner ID.
