Well, I like the idea of players acting as political representitives. Not nessiscarily heads of state, but lower ranking members of said factions. Senators, Governers, Princes, Dukes, etc who are lower in the pecking order. It opens a lot of oppurtunities for RP without the problems of players dictating state laws.

Also, it gives more stuff for the Consortium to try and mind control/kidnap/etc.

(If Gallia has a Princess... ;))

EDIT: As for RP actual Elections, that too opens a number of oppurtunities. Heck, that thing we did in the Flood between me and Zelot a while back was pretty fun, even though it wasn't in RP. But the concept could be applied to an inRP election sort of event, with people casting votes, cantidates voicing their opinions, and all. Again, not for heads of state, but lower ranking officials, laws to be implemented, etc.

All that begins must end.

Well see whether people like it or not, there are people who DO roleplay as leaders of factions. We have people playing as the Order leader, Bretonia Queen, Liberty President, Rheinland Gotkanzler, not sure about Kusari Emperor, but these all exist, and it starts with the player faction that controls that npc faction.

I understand that. But I ask who put them there? I know the answer will be the faction itself... This may buck the system from its stagnant one-man leads House kind of thing. I almost never see anything from the leaders of the House's.

Blodo's idea isn't too bad, and I imagine that Zelot will want to play a Samura/Farmer's Alliance aligned politician, and that the NLH will have their Green Front supporters.

However, we have to be careful with this. I don't want skewed, fake player democracy utterly changing the Houses.

For instance, I know that the NLH won't do this, but I can imagine that it is possible for a lot of players to declare Green Front allegiance and dissolve government ties to Planetform. That, being how the British parliament works, allowing for private members' bills, would suck.

I'll admit I often do roleplay "just to prove I can." When I made the character of the President, I didn't thought it was very bright a move XD very reckless, but it turned very fun.

I won't look at all the topic, but the idea of some kind of person RPing the head of the state is interesting. However, the chosen person must be impartial, fair, and respectful. So by logic, it can't be me, as I am a complete jerk:P

But seriously, the person should be well trusted and respected. And it is better to have multiple persons than only one. One problem stays that RPing the head of the state in game may be nearly impossible, rather say futile. So the "role" would mainly be forum only... Not sure if everyone wants that, especially the workload coming with it.

EDIT: ohh and important thing, the person MUST communicate and deal with factions, as well as indies

Well, we've already got the head of state of Rheinland. That would be our fair and loving Gottkanzler, Reinhardt, also known to some of you as Virus. Adding to that the fact that Rheinland has become all militaristic and fascist... well... see?

Actually, that RP is no longer up to date, since Igiss confirms that in his vision Rheinland is a parliamentary republic with the Chancellor being an elected figure and the Reichstag still functioning normally, while Rheinland itself leans rather to a corporate paradise than a fascist police state:P

Therefore, RP opportunities are all abound!

Well, only organized "goverment bodies" I have seen so far are Order admirals, Crete elders, Outcast dons, Gaians, and way MR works(4 leaders). Reasons those have somewhat organized rule are theese:

Corsairs, Order and Outcasts are trying to get some cohesion and standard in their factions, mosty due to large influx of independant players. Here we have different power figures, capital ship and pilot lists and so on.

Gaians are huddled up together due to extremely low numbers. That fact itself gives them somewhat easier job standardizing faction.

MR was from start designed over idea of ruling council. Reason is simple, not all decisions one would make are good. Also, 4 leaders cover more time online to coordinate stuff. Also sometimes we all need some break. having more people helps here too. Oh, and also there is matter of regular members actually being able to gain rank of faction leader without former one leaving or giving up. (we changed one councilor, and one quit, currenty there is voting on higher ranking chars who will fill in)

Problem with theese systems are numerous. One is that they are never stable. We all see players coming, going, coming back, leaving for good and alike. Second problem is that many refuse to agree on someone being their superior (here you get lots of indies, only because of this). Third is, that with change of rule, some regulations of faction could be messed up. This things can happen rapidly and will keep those underinformed(not likely to hang on forums) unbalanced. You will get rather confusing behavior after some time.

Best solution is to leave things like this to natural growth. If you get base of players that play same faction for long time, they will start to interact and will in some time create regulation system(its something thats in human nature, and Crete elders are best example here). Stuff that is created naturally tend to live longer than that created artificially.

The Vice President just survived an attempted assassination by an Order agent and after being transfered over to the carrier Reliant, made it to Point Blank with a large escort. Possibly some of the best fun I've had on the server since I've arrived!
