Hey guys, maybe lets get back to the original discussion and not focus on one example specifically. Rules are not made because of 1 violation. Individual situations can be dealt with individually, rules are about the structure of the game we are playing and are much bigger than one example.

IMHO: Kudos to those able to run multiple official factions. Now that that has been said, it should not be allowed.

In the virtual world, just because you can have your cake and eat it doesn't mean you should. Why?

Addiction/Workaholics
Burnout
Conflicting Interest
Lack of Opportunities

If it is true that running a single faction is stressful even at the best of times, I can't imagine the strain of running three. So what happens when the leader suddenly feels like they can't get away due to the constant demand and they don't want to let their factions down because they are the sole supporting pillar? This is a breeding ground for negativity and burnout. Especially if things start going south in Real Life as a result. Or if, say, the community doesn't approve of recent choices/actions of your faction, and now the overworked leader feels both exauhsted and unappreciated...

I know we are all adults here, but for the wellbeing of our members, restrictions should exist.

Conflicting interests has already been covered.

Which leaves lack of opportunity. A new player coming in might have a stellar idea for a new faction. BUT if they find out that there is a player faction that already exists (even if it is a suffering ghost of its former self) that new player won't take the risk of starting a new player faction because the field is too crowded.

Player factions should be allowed to rise and fall naturally. NOT being put on life support. By artificially extending their life you end up with a server full of half-dead factions with burned-out leadership, instead of a few thriving factions with several openings for completely new player factions.

Just let things take their natural course and limit leadership to one per player. Don't encourage abusive habits by leaving the door open.

Regardless if it was banned or not the rule would be next to impossible to actually enforce. You could just have a proxy lead for you. Its happened several times in the past with banned players.

Realistically speaking, perhaps it might be indeed be a good idea to have this be a rule. I know it came up a few times before as a point of conversation.
I'll see about igniting that fire again and discuss it on our end as well.

We'll poke back to this thread to see what you folks think now and then.

This. There's really no point or way of enforcing this rule unless you're some crazed megalomaniac who's also going to ban the faction leader's friends.

I get the feeling that this thread is less about wanting the admins to not allow someone to lead more than one faction and more about hating on one member who happens to lead more than one faction

You know, just a feeling.

There is a real need for something like this, we need more diversity. Too much can suffer due to conflicts of interest / lack of effort. One person cannot possibly do everything for every faction and keep them all viable, some will suffer. We need to open more doors for others to make their mark on the community through what fresh ideas they can bring to a faction.

Why are we automatically going the "banned" route? There are other options besides the nuke button.

At least there would be, if players actually responded to minor penalties instead of pushing the envelope as if it were a dare...

I don't think you should be able to lead opposing factions, but if you're leading two factions on different sides, it should be okish.

EG, no leading Hessians and RM, Order and Nomads, Corsairs and OC, etc.

Just saying y'all will be wasting your time. There is no realistic way to enforce this rule. The only way would be to prohibit a faction leader from joining any other faction and that is just nonsense. Don't get me wrong, Its a good idea in spirit. Leading several factions is doing a disservice to them all. I know from experience.
