' Wrote:You will only have to rebuy your ship if the powerplant has changed and you want to take advantage of that change.

Explanation:
The Powerplant of a vessel is specific to that ship/model.
It has been made buyable and tradeable etc like other equipment in most mods except for Discovery (IE like armour upgrades)
It is automatically included in the ship price when you buy a new one and is transfered over automatically.
The NEW powerplants will be on the sellable ships.
YOUR ship will not have the new one as it bought the 'old' powerplant.
Basically a good few ships will now come with a better powerplant when you buy them. If you want it, you will need to buy the ship, even if you already have the same (In all but the powerplant) one.

As the man responsible for moding the powerplant bit in 4.85 i can confirm this. Especialy the first sentance. I should add that some ships will get a 20-40% power increase with rebuy, but are still perfectly flyable if not rebought.

Are you willing to pay 200mil for 40% more power? People pay 895M for 0.5 more armor all the time, so i guess, all requests for refund are void. As you keep the powerplant you had when you bought the ship. And have what you paid for. Unfortunatly the latest 2009 model has a bigger engine for the similar price, so what can you do... replace your old model for a new one? Yes that costs.

Agreed it will, for the most part, but...

Another server? Heh, most of them will probably switch to 4.85 aswell so one would still be in the same predicament anywhere they went. So sucking it up is the only option unless one is prepared to give up the mod altogether. hah

Ok, this is what I see:

-You have the OPTION to rebuy your ship, giving you an increased powerplant, and therefore more likely to win a battle. This is going to cost you, true, and you will have to save up for it, true.

-You can leave your ship the way it is, this will not affect the way it moves, the guns it can fire, the only thing it will affect is how long you can fire for. This again, is your choice.

-There is NO WAY to reimburse the people that will rebuy. There must be almost a thousand capital ships on disco, maybe more. Imagine how much work that would be for people.

-The capital ships need rebuying becuase they need an upgrade. This will benifit all in my opnion, if you disagree, maybe sticking with another server might be your best option, or just sucking it up.

-Capital ships WILL cost more next mod. Powertrade. Everyone else does.

My advice to you:

If you want to buy a cap, WAIT until next mod.
If you need to rebuy a cap, start trading now. I have 1.6 bill saved up for mine.
If you find out your ship was not one of those that needed rebuying, all of a sudden you have a few hundred million to play with. Lovely feeling, trust me.
If you don't want to upgrade your cap, I advise you just focus on it's RP. It's easier that way, even if you then die, people respect you. It's what I do, I'm a crap pilot.

I'm done.

Seth

even replacing the most expensive battleships won t be very expensive...

when you buy a battleship - it comes with a battleship license - but you already have one - so you can add that to the sell value ( ~ 250.000.000 sell value of a battleship + 250.000.000 license )

a new ship costs roughly 700 - 800 millions - so all you gotto pay is some 300.000.000 - i am sure that most ppl have spent a lot more than 300 million before - its really not that expensive.

There is no money for updates, there never has been. The BS license was the exception. This is the thing with
a very dynamic mod, everything changes, and so do the prices on the equipment. If you are going to leave
because someone upped the cost of gear, then question your motives please ...

Hoodlum

Will the function that kicks/bans a player for purchasing the already owned ship be turned off temporarily so players can upgrade to the new ship models with minimal credit loss and trouble?
This is the only issue i care about, credits are of course not a problem for me.
A admin response on this matter would be appreciated.

' Wrote:whatever you do you will have to have the new stats if they get worse, it is against the server rules to have a ship better than the current mod version. You can quite happily maim yourself and have worse stats than the current version, by not re-buying a ship which has been boosted, however. Now this conversation need go no further.

So HOW do we know which are boosted and which are not...

...and this is something I really don't like. So far, I met quite a lot of lolwutters that had no problem with powertrading and also quite a lot of roleplayers who hated trading (why spending valuable time on flying boring trade runs when you could RP?). And it's also a reason why I, usually described as a quite good roleplayer, will most certainly never fly a BS and rather let the lolwutting horde that hasn't got anything better to do than powertrading do so.

Very good!

*** I had once a mod (many years ago, I think there were also some star trek models and warships had big rotateable turrets) with an option to buy different power power plants for the ships. I was really cool.

Surrender now!!!
