Lack of conflict leads to inactivity and death. We had the Mollys lawful at one point... And their player faction almost died out. It was agreed by just about everyone that burning that treaty would be best for everyone involved, so the Mollys are unlawful separatists again.
' Wrote:The Gaian's aren't really suppose to be terrorist's. More like (what people call) "Hippies". They just fly around and yell over communications about how things -should- be.
I've said it a million times & I'll say it again:
GAIANS ARE NOT & NEVER HAVE BEEN 'HIPPIES'
it's a stereotype, it's aggrivating & has no basis in 'game reality' given the information available
I challenge anyone to give credible evidence that says they are.
Before they were a faction, they were scientists from Cambridge that became militant when the teabag gov't allowed a tourist industry on the surface of Gaia after every effort was made by the scientists to block it.
Just because colleges are famous for partying & protesting does not mean in the least that the staff & professors of those colleges are hippies as a rule.
I guarantee that individual opinions from people who don't even play Gaians are the only things anyone can come up with to support the whole hippie thing.
& by the way:
Quote:Sorry Burg! Gaians are just more interesting!
As far as i am concered, Gaians are a bunch of lousy, insugnifficant pirates that dont even have capital ships.
(well thats what my zoner character thinks lol) [color=#FF0000]EPIC PHAIL
Hell, what would even be the point of being a Gaian, wasting time? How many TERRAFORMING GASSES smugglers do you get through edinburggh? HMMM?

I'll agree with you there. If it wasn't for their allies (Corsairs and Kusari both), I might consider playing one. I'm really not fond of the Mollys, and Bretonia doesn't have much else in the way of (uniquely Bretonian) unlawfuls. If anything I might play an indie Gaian with a generic ID so I can make my own goals and alliances.
And Cam... They're getting a unique gunship in 4.85, as well as several (I think more than just one) new commodities coming from Edinburgh which they'll want to put a stop to.
Hippies is an OOC insult created due to their vanilla origins, as environmentalists on Cambridge. This of course gives rise to thoughts of 1960's era long-haired treehuggers. These of course were brought IC and stuck, whether or not they're truly fitting (which they aren't). But many people find them amusing from both an IC and OOC point of view, so they aren't going anywhere. Don't get angry about them OOCly, most people probably realize that Gaians aren't really all that close to 'hippies'.
Gaians are less agressive than Mollys, a simple reading of the respective bases' infocards will confirm this.
Gaians are an intellectual movement at heart with a governmental party and are given considerable leeway by the BPA, although some more recent members are closer to simple "pirates".
Mollys, on the other hand, are considerably more violent, conducting attacks on anyone affiliated to the Bretonian government that they find in Dublin, whereas Gaians restrict their attacks to those corporations with an interest in Gaia (Planetform, OSC, BMM), but are more widespread throughout Bretonia.
Accually Drake, I'm sure I had a hand in cementing the stereotype back in the day with another player who was OSC...I never heard Gaians referred to as hippies until he & I started to make it a habit of trading RP insults back & forth. it was funny at the time & it just happened to stick.
I like it as a derrogatory term, but it stopped being as amusing to me when new people kept coming on the server & thought that that's what the Gaians actually were.
Now it's like having to do 'damage control' all the time
