My personal opinion to this is - If you look at how real life laws and legislations are written out they are pretty much similar to how they're input here!!

I am relatively new and have to disagree that the Laws are hard to learn! Granted it might take time to get used to all the Laws etc and remembering - But i didn't personally find them difficult to understand - While i have made mistakes and gotten into trouble in RP on a couple of occasions it's something you pick up quickly to learn and grow!

I think simplifying the rules would be illogical the only thing i will speak out on is Pop Culture - People seem to misunderstand what this means and end up naming their ships against the rules of the server! I also find this rule is not enforced as much as it should be and it is not setout in an understanding of Popular Culture references! I see many names flying around that would fall under Popular Culture and are still able to continue to fly! thus being popular culture rule is the only one i would signify that needs changeing or updating to a better description of Popular Culture!

As a newcomer that flew on vanilla servers 15 years ago, I don't think that the rules and laws are confusing. Discovery is unique in that it is one of the only, if not THE only, active modded Freelancer communities around. It's RP and as such requires an extra level of learning how to function in the game. I made it a point to join a player faction and limit my actions so that I can watch how things are done. I've asked questions and already a week into real activity I feel prepared to start upgrading my ship and participate more actively with my group. I know the jist of the rules/laws and I do think some of them can be revised, but that's the case with any set of laws/rules.

That's just my perspective as a first time Discovery player, long time Freelancer player.

Unless you create game mechanics which encapsulate online roleplay in a PVP environment, rules are needed and sometimes they must be very specific and detailed where players are so keen to try an find loopholes to gain an edge over another player/group.
