' Wrote:I think it is not so bad. Most of oorp talks, which you can see, are in Pensylwania and New York, because of there are many new people.
I tell you one reason (there is more of course) why many people don't come to forum and they look like bad RPers on the server - it is the language.
There is many people from non English countries, they want to play Freelancer with other people but theirs language is not so good to talk or read freely. I know English is obligatory here and you can say : don't play here if you can't talk. I know you can say this, and I accept. But every who loves this game, don't give up so easy.
Most of RP encounters are in a little stressful situations; a pirate stops you with a missile and he asks you about something(setmsg), sometimes two of them at a time, you have to read, to understand well, and write answer, but the pirate is not patient and nice, and he asks you again with threat, you want RP with him, to say something interesting, but when you see in the chat: 10, 9, 8... all what you can say it is : ok;
or you are trying to run; there is no time to write something with no errors and with proper grammar.
More of that. If you meet Molly (but not only), he talks strange language, and most of what he says, you can't understand. I know this is a part of RP and this is his language. It is shame for me, because I see he is trying to be nice, but I don't know what to answer because I don't understand the question. In the end you can only say: "OK" or "Thanks".
I am trying to read forum. Half of time that I can spend in this game, I read forum. But there is a part of posts I don't understand what the author wants to say. I am trying to say something, sometimes, but I know probably you don't understand what I wanted to say. I was invited to join some clans, I refused, because I know there is necessary to good communicate. I can't ensure it. so, I have to play alone.
It is not only about me. Many times I hang my vessel in space to listen what people are talking about. I have one char (my bank), he has max rank level (I have big money but I don't have any cap ship, and I don't want to have), I play him sometimes. I am surprised how many people PM me and asking questions which I thought are obvious.
I read some outside forums of clans which play here, and I see people have problems with understand all the rules and conventions. Some rules are very complicated. They are surprised that they were banned or someone gave them a warning.
Many people read forum as guest, they don't logon, because they don't feel the need to write anything or they simply cannot write because of language. Why to write anything if you post would be ignored because of it is not understandable for others.
I am not complaining anything, I accept things as they are, I am only trying to set one of the reasons, why some people RP could look bad, and why some people don't register on the forum.
I hope that at least some part of this is understandable for you.
Dude, if I would totally start speaking another language when I got pirated if I were in you. Also, I would totally hang out with you in the game. Problems understanding because of different languages make for fun roleplay situations.

Bretonia is like a ghost town. When I am on there is hardly anyone there ever. It used to be a happening place, but like I said, maybe it is only when I am on.
A big part of that is that inventive role play (no matter how well thought out) is usually rules lawyered by players not liking it, reported as a sanctionable offense to admins who often compromise by simply interpreting the letter of the law. It's easier to sit in one space, hang out with the same people and never stretch anything so you don't get in trouble or have a flame in-game. So players concentrate in their favorite areas and do little outside of it.
No one's in Bretonia (they are more often now) cause half the characters in the game aren't allowed to go there. No one leaves most areas cause many of their main chars have the same restrictions.
Traders and pirates and Junkers are the only ones moving around nowadays. Everyone else is camped.

If I am understanding you I am not rules lawyering. I do not care if that is what people want to do. I just do not understand when people say traders do not RP when they sit in a system with others they know.
I wasn't referring to your comments here or you. I mean, players sit because they don't HAVE to be inventive to rp sitting in a "safe" space. You take a risk if you venture outside the neatly drawn parameters everyone expects--and risk here means someone gets offended and reports you--forcing the admins to "make a ruling" which usually ends in a sanction.
' Wrote:I find it disturbing that some people on this server believe that because they have certain traits that others do not have(ingame cash, better RP, better English), they are entitled to more of what our community has to offer than said others.
This is an incorrect notion, as Bacon aforementioned. It is also harmful.
What I find most ironic is that someone with incorrect punctuation is telling others to lose their capital ships because of their poor English.
Well, we here at Discovery may require English, but we certainly do not discriminate.
So, bud, LEARN2PUNCTUATE.
As unfortunate as it may be, what I put in bold, is, the truth.
If you dont speak english, thats about all the spirit of the server that is lost on you.
If you can't RP, same thing.
Meaning if you play on this server, it would merely to buy the best ship available, and turn around the rules and profit from the most open ID available to shoot down anything you feel like.
Also is punctuation relatively a lesser minor thing compared to spelling.
A person that forget a dot or a coma here and there isn't on the same level as a person speaking in 1337.

Ah, that was you. The irony becomes even sharper.
I wonder what Jimmy Patterson would say about your quote?
Take him as an example. His spelling, very frankly, is rather bad. But the most important part is that he tries very hard to do a good job RPing on the server, and he does a great job at it. I do enjoy his stories, and I find that he deserves to play on this server as much as any other person does.
Now, before you start, "but Jimmy speaks English and my post is about people not speaking English..."
Achem.
Quote:Seriously, people who cant spell shouldnt be in battleships.
Mate, this server is built on respect. Mutual respect for one another. That means players who can't spell as well as you do, RP as well as you do, or pilot as well as you do. I'm tired and disgusted by the people who claim that they are entitled to more because they can spell, fight, or RP better. Because that's not what Discovery is about. It's not a circle where everybody gathers around and pulls out their ****s and rulers, it's a community built on friendships and having a good time.

I was going to post my opinion on this, but I feel that no matter what argument I make for any side, I will get my head bitten off or simply be ignored.
All I see here are two sides that are convinced they are right, and will give no quarter.
So you have to ask yourself, is anything really being accomplished in this thread? Things on the server seem to change and evolve completely independent of the forums, unless of course there is admin intervention.
If things are getting bad, then they will continue to get worse until some one in a position of power sees and gives them a hard slap to get things into line.
And guess what, shifting through all of the old threads on these forums just reveal more of the same.
I see many people using wrong tech. They simply don't know about restrictions.
I am trying to PM to ppl I see they have on.eg. hessians weps on corsair ships, because they found it. Sometimes they asked me 'why' and we can talk about, but sometimes they say 'who are you, admin or rat...' or simply they keep silent.
Link for Xoria chart is too complicated to write it in the chat.
I thought maybe dev. team could prepare a document like those : server rules and history of sirius with list of IDs and 'green' tech.
or
write to each ID 'green' tech free to use with.
