Staff don't get the same luxuries as the players for playing the game. They got staff stuff to do, reports to go through, paperwork to file, changes to consider and vote upon. You get the idea. They don't have nearly as much time to play the game, what with their real lives too. We spend our time playing the game in our free time, they spend it trying to figure out what to do with it in terms of the inner workings, or some other technical difficulty that needs resolving.

Activity is what you make it. It's easy enough to spark up, with the heart to do so and with good friends behind you that can also offer their time to do so too. All's you need to do is go "Hey guys, would you like to log with me, we can go do some stuff. Don't matter what, we can just chill." Seeing OFs die is depressing, but it's as people have already said. OF status only really matters for a few factions, where there's an actual benefit for the OF itself.

I find that just giving people a reason to exist within the game is enough to creating activity within the game. Being there when a friend wants some RP company, organising a large gathering for a convoy, organising with allies and enemies alike (In-game, of course) to create fun situations for all involved. We can all be the miniature "Roleplay Event" team that we desired to see in staff and we don't need to be staff to do so. You just need to muster up the courage to go to your buddies and work things out.

Lately I've wondered why that's difficult these days. And there's of course some valid points about dissent over balance changes, lack of roleplay stuff, etc etc etc. The list is longer than it needs to be. Be the change you want to see in the game, and soon enough you might find that your change sparked the motivation of others to do the same. Maybe you'll achieve nothing, maybe only one person per day more logs in for awhile then returns the list to the same faces throughout the day. At the end of the day, you'll never know if you'll change the course of Discovery if you sit idly by and preach the changes you want to see, while never acting yourself.

Waiting for the change in player count makes you just as much at fault for the problem as the people you blame, if not more.

You wanna rekindle a spark in the game? Try something new, or something old that you miss. Restart an old project that you have laying around in storage somewhere, prowl around systems and see if people do anything to meet you. If no one does, and it felt depressing, do something else, or try a different approach. It really is as simple as putting in the effort. People might mostly be selfish, but that's no reason to stop trying.

Thank you, Eternal Journey.

Pardon the polemic, but I do agree with this.

With the caveat that you should only do this if you're finding the fun in it. A certain amount of self-filtration will occur, though.

Often it doesn't occur to people that they could be the one leading activity themselves.

Unpopular opinion: remove POB rights (except maybe core 1 or 2) from non OFs and watch OFs come back in name at least, if not in spirit.

And overhaul the OF system. In my latest stint here that's now heading into the 6th year I have never felt compelled to join an OF as a casual RPer, because the cons simply outweighed the pros.

Lejima in Sigma 13 will require removal from Core 5.

Edit: Factions losing "officialdom" due to inactivity really is what it is. Everyone has to abide by th4e same rules.

Enough back door lobbying & circle jerking exists as it is, the staff involved will never be held accountable nor will anything be done about it.

let this activity report be a stern reminder that everyone has to play by the same rules, not just get away with things because you have an admin/staff friend.

Mep doesn't have any friends.

There's been a lot of talk regarding the OF system, but having a lot of activity doesn't always equate to good faction quality. For example, 46th was ridiculed until the Doctor stepped in and made it a faction worth playing for.

Ever since Barrier left the community the server has been on a freefall, and not much is happening aside from MHS fleet battles, Perfect Gentleman's squadrons and the Unioners.

unpopular opinion, having server activity and special equipment largely circle around POBs has been disastrous for how the community perceives PVP and hostile interactions and as a result, server activity.
every pob siege is personal and if the owner could reach through the internet to personally take out your eyes, they probably would.
every supply transport shot is personal, and youre attacking them/their faction directly and OORPly because youre negatively affecting their pob/their ability to make money/ability to make equipment
so on and so forth.

there's plenty of non-pob problems too of course.

you and your friends were single handedly responsible for the biggest decline in population in server history. not as instantaneous as the dev takeover/heavy decision/DDOSing events, but easily the largest decrease of several hundred regular players (a significant loss in 2009, catastrophic in 2022) in ~8 months. you successfully made Liberty one of the least popular and least visited houses while the 1st was still active. yes, you had activity come about in response to your nonsense, and there would be a large burst of it, but because it was so abysmal to take part in, so constant, people got sick of the game and simply stopped playing, and largely the Liberty playerbase. especially Liberty unlawfuls after being dogpiled by a dozen 1st caps every day. nearly every single official and unofficial Liberty/Liberty-adjacent faction despised the presence of you and the 1st.
between the idea that you were a victim to some grand plot against you, your permanent presence in faction feedbacks when you lost a fight/got chewed out by friendlies, and your harebrained schemes to try and get other factions destroyed for not playing in your favor, you managed to turn anywhere from a third to half of the active population (across all time zones) away from the server forever.
not all activity is good activity, and you were the most shining example of that.

Guys, let's try to keep things civil - we recognize that shit needs to be changed from the gameplay and administrative side to encourage more self-motivated logging in game that isn't in the form of powertrading. We've got peeps much smarter than I -a very low bar- working on it, and we are always listening for suggestions.
