Instead of cementing the normal BS as an obsolete hunk and bloating the mod further with some new 'dreadnaught' thing (that, as I understand it, will wipe its tuhus with the Kusari BS, leading to cries for A SUPER KUSARI DEATH STAR PLZ), why not try to fix what we've already got to work with?

Please realize that I'm not criticizing the model itself - it looks pretty good actually. But unless it becomes available by Admin-approval only, and there's truly only ONE, then no. As bad as the Bret BS is, I see people flying that thing regularly; god knows how many of these things will be out in space as soon it hits the open market.
Or what mb52 said.

That's certainly an option. However, I think it's agreed among the Brainstorm that this ship is meant for killing one thing and one thing only, and that's all it's going to be good at - killing medium and heavy Battleships. This thing is so large and its guns are placed in such a way that any three half-arsed bomber pilots can murder it, and it should NEVER be mobilized unless there's a war fleet with it, which is something I think any of the indies dumb enough to buy this thing without significant research and pre-planned RP will shortly realize. Remember, this ship is probably two to three times as WIDE at its widest point than the Outcast Destroyer is LONG. It's one of those heavy Dreadnoughts that's only good for one thing and anybody dumb enough to buy one without a faction to support it is going to regret it in short order and probably sell it.

EDIT: Also, the Bretonian BS does need a considerable buff, because with its armor rating I don't even think it's competent against other ships of its own class (I sold mine partially for that reason). However, that's not going to make it any better against the Kusari Battleship unless we about double the strafe (or triple)...

Bret BS is probably one of the underused BS's out there, All I regually see is myself (HMS-Kent) And one of the four BAF| Battleships. There are a few others around for sure, but the only regular ones are the two mentioned, similar to the Kusari Battleship numbers, which as far as I know the only other faction along with the BD with a small amount of Battleships in operation (Player wise).

And yes, Bretonian BS needs a buff, especially our Primary BS weapons, which are almost the same as Liberty ones aside from 200 LESS range and 500 MORE energy used per shot. Ahem?

Currently even using its range the Kusari BS can dodge alot of the shots, and it ends up being more of the same at long range, but slightly slower with less shots hit each side.

Also, frankly any Battleships should be flown with support, lone battleships are very vunerable as they should be fleet figureheads rather than lone ships designed to fight everything, Im not sure where this is going, turning it into a bigger blimp than the Rh BS might work out or it may not, remeber our next target are the Corsairs, who have the Osiris. The Osiris would run circles around this thing and wear it down easily, im not sure it should be huge, but it should definatly be on par with the Kusari BS.

You showed me the Bretonian battleship is no push-over.

And I'd like to see a model of this thing. The drawing looks good, but I think I'd rather see a 3D view.

Do you see the Ku BS overused? Its extremely noob-friendly BS, I have never flown any BS before, but I was able to beat Bret BS quite easily. But it doesnt get used so much.

Everyone goes for Order ships because they were the good guys with uber tech in SP. Bounty hunters, because they are cool and hunt every pirate, Outcasts or Corsairs, because they are the bad guys.

Im really not afraid of the dreadnought being spammed.

I agree, should all new capships be Special RP only? Anything new is in danger of being spammed, it's because it's new. Bretonia is hardly capship centeral, we have a few people running around in Gunboats but that is going down again. We dont have more than Two different Kusari Battleships to fight, one of which doesnt come out all too often, Corsairs are a bit worse but for the most part dont have any danger in requiring a fleet to counteract. I saw several indies in Bret BS's when I got my one, those died down and the only other one I know that exists doesnt get used much at all (Indie).

Simple solution to being spammed:
Make it special RP request only, like the Imperial Yacht.

The Imperial Yacht's special RP status is coming from its RP status. It's a ceremonial ship, the Emperor's estate. How many of those should be flying around?

So, whether this one becomes for Special RP only depends on its RP status. It definitely won't be the Queen's personal ship:PIt's a combat vessel (unlike the Imperial Yacht), maybe not so common. It could be one-of-a-kind, maybe not. It shouldn't be forced to require Special RP just because the Emperor's ship requires it.

Why you go about special RP if there is right 5 of the factions?

Quote:5) Official Factions control the issuance of Battleship Licences to independent players and faction members for their house Battleships, via the forum application process.

Players sanctioned for PVP violations in a battleship may, at the Admin's discretion, have the licence removed as part of their sanction. They must then re-apply for the licence from the official faction, or downgrade the ship.

An Official Faction which has granted a battleship licence to a player may ask the Admins afterwards to remove the licence, with reasons. Conversely a player who feels they have been treated unfairly by an Official Faction, regarding a licence, may appeal to the Admins.

Should be enough to stop this thing from beeing spammed, no? (and unless the Admins say this is cancelled, there is no need to discuss this beeing SPRPR)

In a brilliant tactical movement, i charged backwards.

Personally, as BAF faction leader, I would very much support the idea of such a ship, as I beleive it is in keeping with Bretonian RP; the BAF's shipline is generally one of heavy but less-maneuverable vessels, and a heavy battleship to compliment that line would fit very well. Whether to RP that it was newly developed or already secretly in reserve I am undecided, but certainly Bretonia as a centre of heavy industry would be very well suited to constructing a monstrous ship of great size to tackle the Kusari. Bear in mind that Kusari is the technologically advanced house, Bretonia is the heavy industry house. Building big, rather than agile, therefore makes sense for us.

I do, however, agree that such a ship should not be overused. These vessels would be flagships for Bretonia, possibly involving a re-organisation of the entire BAF Fleet around them. Perhaps one stationary ship in Salisbury (or on the front lines) and / or a minimal number of player vessels. I would not be at all opposed to making these as special RP request or restricted in some other way, particularly if they are to be so large that inRP Bretonia would only have the resources during wartime to produce a single one, or perhaps a line of a very few.

Nevertheless I think the concept is sound and I quite like the design, though there should certainly be more discussion on the specifications of the vessel.

Someone lend me a Bret Battleship and then grab a Kusari one, I reckon I could give one a serious run for it's money.

EDIT: On topic, I support the dread.

Off topic: I'm drinking vodka.
