There are plenty of reasons why pirates demand cargo and most have been explained here, but here's a thing. Why don't you ask him? The one pirating for cargo almost always are doing it for RP reasons and are "happy" to explain it to you if you ask. Just make sure that you are not going to run (I've got an engine malfunction or some such) to settle the pirate's suspicions.

Flying under radar.

Heh..well, if the demand is quite..odd, in terms of credits, you can always just die...

Not saying the usual "Lol, just blow me up" but something along the lines of "Gunners, let's show these people what happens if they mess with OUR convoys!" and then get blown to peaces...

That small thing from bretonnia always seemed too evasive. Percheron? On another note, join a trading faction. We NEED more trading factions.

' Wrote:For all you traders saying your ships are defenseless, or dont have enough firepower, ask yourself one question... are you flying a 5000 unit transport? If the answer is yes, then you have answered your question. The 5000 unit transports are sitting ducks, and they are supposed to be.... you give up defense for all that cargo space. I have three trade ships, 2 BW trans and a Big Dragon, I can handle most lone opponents, whether is be taking on a bomber or fighter, or getting away from a GB. I give up cargo space for defense, thats the trade off that I make. I also have 2 Raba's and a Ptrans that I use for cargo piracy, so I know it doesnt take a bomber or gb to take down a transport. Balance your risk and reward when picking a ship to trade in, I advise against the Super Transports.

Hmm, well I was in a Mammoth at the time, with four class seven turrets (* well, there are actually five, but one is essentially useless, as it seems to only fire backwards*).
While I totally agree that an expanded cargo hold is the result of a trade-off between capacity and firepower/maneuverability, a 2200 unit cargo hold isn't THAT big...

Get a Shire then. That mobile castle can survive long enough to escape from most of pirates.

Escorts would work, but this is the same problem with the Battleships. The fighters cannot kill the bomber fast enough to let the transport live. However, Gunboats would work well, and so would bombers...

Pirate bombers asking you to drop your entire cargo may seem strange but i know OPG bombers do it then call in OPG transports or OTC vessels to scoop up the cargo.

Its not unreasonable to take the cargo just becuase your vessel cant hold it all if you can get another one to collect it.

Hmm, I wouldnt have had much of a problem with that, but I found the pirates simply blew my cargo up without even attempting to tractor any of it.
I'll just try to RP with them and reach a bargain of some description in future.
Thanks

When I read the first post before the last note, I was asking myself if it wasn't me.

I did even pirated a bret shire in my titan (and no hull lost at all:D). The thing is while I ask for cargo, I spam group chat to get a transport.

Traders in omegas often don't want to pay 9M when I ask it so I ask for cargo. Nevertheless, the cargo I ask costs even more. Finally I just wait for the OPG/OTC transport he get the loot and more than 10M are done in this.

So to the "Pointless piracy...", I'd say it's not that "Pointless" unless you want I pirate for 9M credits.
