I could agree with some bounuses to the Official factions, but what kind of bounuses.

They do not need more power.

More Power maybe not but here are a few I liked:

1. Discounts by Commodity (This could require a new Ageira PFaction ID)

-To touch on this with my own idea, what if creating a alternate set of ID's for Player Factions, I know the Guard ID's are that to some extent but maybe make them harder to get or only attainable to Player Factions. Though some modifications might have to be made as indies shouldn't require Guard ID's to do things the NPC faction can do but they wouldn't be able to get the bonuses.

2.Faction ships

-I really liked this idea but a problem arises when you take in account the fact that their are multiple factions per NPC faction and what about Custom Factions, or the ones that are more unique.

3.Faction Weapons

-This one was reasonable especially if you make Codenames belong to Indies, it would give a nice bonus but not break or give too much advantage to players it could also make for good RP selling weapons and factions having to take in account how these weapons are used. IE... "Why the hell are these ships attacking me with your Weapons?" Thus creating roleplay by creating some interesting diplomatic moments. (I'm a sucker for Political RP/Diplomatic RP)

4.Make Large Capital Ships Special RP (My Idea)

-I'm against having Factions OOCly having control as it calls for problems should OOC Bias or dislikes occur what I do think should happen is make them all or at least the large Capital ships restricted to RP applications. On my other server, (Non Freelancer) we make all players require Profiles to be made to get passed Level 50. If they get an approved profile they receive a bump to level 80 and tokens in which they can get any item they want. The point? This allows regulation of good characters from LolWhat characters.

We all hate LolCaps and we don't want one person to decided who can get a ship and who cannot unless that person is a admin. So why not do this and be a bit more acceptable to those who are part of Factions as they are following the rules of the faction and are easier regulated. Indies are on there own but if your part of a faction your more likely to see LolWhat's get punished.

That's all I got for now but I think there are lots of good ideas on what can be Bonuses.

Ideas have been flying fast and furious, some good, some not. I have some niggling questions about some of the ideas being tossed about, mainly aimed at Cannon and the admins.

1. How long does it take to code, test, and implement an FLHook command? Yes, I know it depends on what the command does. Say you want to link buy/sell prices to a certain ID. For the sake of argument, an Ageira ID'd and tagged trader will receive a 10% higher sell-price for Gate/Lane Parts when selling at locations that buy said commodity?

Is this a simple "if tag=x and id=x, then sellprice=(sellprice*1.10)" or is it more complicated?

You (the community) can throw out ideas on FLHook commands all you want mainly because you don't code them, or what it takes to code them in terms of time, resources, and feasibility.

2. Another thing is all the ideas about SRP requests. SRP (or Special Role-Play, because not everyone knows the acronyms) to me seems to take a good amount of effort by our admin team. At the moment, the public's ability to view and judge SRP requests was (rightfully so) taken away, and the only idea we have they are being processed is from the reference thread (link not provided).

The "Admin-provided" IDs and rep-fixes and ships and .beams and blahblahblah all take time from the thirteen (13) admins that currently show up on the in-game splash-message. Of those 13, at any one time maybe 10 are fully active in administering Discovery (debatable at times, yes). Of those 10, how many different time zones are there? Of those 10, how much free time to they spend discussing sanctions, SRPs, and other administrator subjects?

It does take time to get a repfix for the invite-only factions on occasion...believe me I know.

This is not a call for more administrators, it is a call to the community to lessen their load, not increase it.

******************************************************

3. And this one is for the community. There are what, ten to fifteen THOUSAND registered users on the server, upwards of thirty-two thousand registered users on the forums. Granted, many of these forum users are never here, have left, whatever, but there's still a huge amount of people to administer and "control".

How are you (the community member) going to make Discovery a better place today?

-How are you, Capital Ship Captain, going to make Discovery a better place today? Are you going to stay out of a fight that isn't yours? Are you going to roleplay with a pirate and let him get away? Are you going to help that small Rhino or CSV doing missions with a few bats/bots?

-How are you, Gunboat/Bomber Pirate, going to make Discovery a better place today? Are you going to taunt the navy/police mercilessly with witty banter, then NOT engage? Are you going to scan that small freighter, and let it go on a whim? What about the transport convoy? What about asking for a few hundred thousand credits instead of a few million? What about asking for nothing at all except an ear to listen to your faction's story? Or allowing the target time to form a response?

-How are you, Lawful of all kinds, going to make Discovery a better place today? Are you going to escort that pirate out of your space without shooting them? Are you going to patrol a system other than your home system? Are you going to offer free-escort to those traders passing through your space?

-How are you, Traders of all size, going to make Discovery a better place today? Will you willingly give up a reasonable portion of your cargo/credits? Will you answer a pirate if he asks it of you, and not silently thrust away? Is there an escort you can hire?

It's not up to "them" to make Discovery better, be it Admins, Indies, Factionized players, pirates, traders, miners, outcasts, corsairs, nomad, order, or coalition.

It's up to us.

We, the players, make a difference.

So go make a difference. Make Discovery a better place today.

Well, since I'm fairly new and not yet in any official factions, I'll just say what my ideal faction would be like.

Firstly, a nice friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

Secondly, shared ships, not only for the leaders, but for everyone. I don't really want to be forced into playing a low ranking fighter pilot all the time. I want to play a variety of roles, from a light interceptor, to a gunboat captain, to an admiral.
I want the chance to fly a cruiser, without risking all of my own credits on a ship I either don't like or can't play well. I want to be given the opportunity to be an admiral for a day, and to be given training and advice on how role-play that character to a high standard.
I would like the Admin team to subsidise group ships to better enable the advancement of a wider range of role-playing.

I want to be trained both in combat and in role-play. To train individual skills and group tactics, and how to better interact with other players.

I want to be part of a group where everyone having fun is the top priority.

By the way, if your group is already like that I've described, why don't you contact me?

See, now Wood. Thats where Offical Factions fail.

Most of them, if you havent found out, you will. They do something like this

"Fly X fighter for X amount of time"
"Fly X Gunboat/Bomber for X amount of time"

Ect.

Its one of the cardinal reasons I have never joined one and never will.

The thing is, with the shared ships. Not everyone can be trusted to make wise desicions with large caps. I suppose sharing-all with shared Official Ships could work if, again, approved RP.

Kishiro shares 8 ships. All above 4k cargo.
With exception of one mining ship.
You dont have to fly anything for any amount of time. you only need to behave, know the rules and not break them and be an alright guy so we can trust you with the ships. But most people we get dont need a bigger ship anyway.

Good, A great start. Perhaps all factions could do this.

This could be one bonus (incentive) for indies to join official factions. ... I still am lost on what else we could do to make them more attractive without increasing their power.

Oh and we tried. We realy tried as all opg tried. Look how it ended. Everyone got pissed so hard taht opne of the most active faction which was rping for corsairs not in gamma died. Happy?

No sir, you fail against lolwutters. You don't put enough effort in if it is not working. I'm sure you did try, try harder. If I can speak to indies and get them on the right track I'm sure you could to. You see, the more you get angry at them, the more they resist your requests. Keep at it, I'm sure you could do this. Granted it's not going to be a quick operated but it's one that has to be done if this problem is going to be resolved. And as for the sarcastic happy on the end, no I'm not. But it's not my fault, it's yours. These people need guidance and if your not controlled enough in order to let your faction live it's nobodies fault but your own. There is a reason why indies outnumber official faction members. And here is that reason: Factions aren't welcoming enough to people and they make it hard to get anywhere.

Sorry bear but as one of OPG high ranking members I can testify that we tried for a long long time. Opening that faction feedback was one of the most necessary evils we had to do.

and then all the whine poured in and few encouraging notes from true friends and players. While touching, not encouraging to continue at all.
