Right click on your freelancer shortcut, to get to Properties.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -sdiscogc.game-host.org:2303 -w -newplayer -dptplayer -logchat -logtime -logappend

Add the part I have highlighted. (This is my command line, in case anyone wonders - I also show players joining, leaving, my chat gets logged to DSAce and appended each time, and I play in windowed mode.)

EDIT: I want to throw one more comment out here. Yeah, there's a whole lot of Valors out there. This is from the basic storyline:

Having several hundred battleships and tens of thousands of smaller ships, the sheer size of the armada proved that the Council was not the target of the offensive.

Gallia has spent the last several hundred years simply building more and more cap ships in preparation for this invasion. So when you see something like 10 Valors sitting there waiting for you - that's IN RP for them.
